Helps with fridge power off stock hatch plug?

I went with 2x 50qt Massimo e-koolers (can be set as low as 0F) and 2x 500w Massimo battery packs from Costco. I’ll unload it all each night (after 6-7 hr drives each day) and plug them in the hotel room to keep the freezer going and recharge the 500w battery packs.




Hey all,

Im moving across the country and have to keep breastmilk frozen for our kiddo during the 6 day drive. Would this fridge be ok plugged into the hatch power plug? I would bring it in and plug it into the hotel power socket every night to keep it frozen and not kill my 4runner agm battery.

Our original plan was 2 huge coolers with dry ice (impossible to find apparently, everywhere around us hasn't received a shipment in weeks).
This fridge/freezer looks like a better option if it will run off the hatch plug.

Maybe this is a better idea? Get 2x of these to power 2 fridges for the 7-8 drive (per day) then plug them all into the hotel rooms when we check in?

i used this during my trip with 1 55l fridge. the advantage of this is during stops, the fridge continues to run and have to leave it in my 4runner. i have a agm battery on it so i get to use 50% capacity but can go over.
i can replace the battery using lithum if i need more capacity later on. it recharges my portable battery during my drive.

For safety/security's sake I can see lugging everything into the hotel room, but honestly if you've got the freezers down to 0 before you start, have the batteries fully charged, and are driving 6-7 hours with them plugged into the truck so that the freezers are being powered while you drive and it's keeping the batteries topped off I would think you will have no worries for the battery packs keeping the freezers running over night. I just got back from a 2 week road trip with a setpower a40 fridge running off the rear outlet using a bluetti 700 battery and had no issues whatsoever. Since you have 2 units you may also be using the front cig lighter so I don't know if that stays hot when the truck is off, the back doesn't so it would automatically shift to the bluetti and there was never any chance of draining the starting battery

Not sure if this helps at all, but I can give you my experience.

I use a SetPower RV45D. Normally I only use it as a single zone set at 28 degrees for the weekends. I precool the fridge and anything going into it. When I take off for the drive to my fishing spots (generally a 3-4 hour drive), I plug the SetPower into the rear cigarette lighter and place the SetPower on Eco mode.

When I get to my spot, I plug into a Bluetti EB55. At 28 degrees, I get 10-14 hours. 0 degrees is going to work your power unit much faster.

There are a lot of hotels that I go to that have 110 available outside, most of the time, on a light pole. I didn't realize this until I started looking. If that is the case, I have a Klein tools power strip mounted in my 4Runner. I plug the SetPower and the Bluetti into the power strip, the power strip into 110, and call it a day. If that doesn't work, or if I'm going to a hotel that I know doesn't have 110 available, while I'm driving, I'll knock the temp down to about 20. That way, when I get to the hotel, I can buy myself a bit of time and just take the Bluetti up the the room to charge. It doesn't take a ton of time to do so, and I don't lose much from a temperature perspective, but I'm dealing with drinks and snacks, not breast milk.

This might not be the solution for you, but it might give you some ideas for the trip.
