I have a 99runner v6 W/136,000 miles. When i turn it over it seems like it has to crank quite a bit before it starts and sometimes it just sputters and i have to do this a few times before it starts. Any ideas. could it be the mass air flow sensor

I'm sorta having the same problem. I just purchased the "highlander" edition 99 sr5. It fires up but it has a longer than usual crank. Occasionally, it'll crank then sputter and sound like the engine fired up, but dies out. Then I crank it again and it fires up. I had it checked out and the fuel filter replaced. The problem still persists. I'm scheduled to get a fuel pressure test done on Tuesday, hopefully that'll tell me if it's the fuel pump, or maybe the MAF. I haven't checked the spark plugs so that'll be done before the visit to the shop. I'll keep posted after the visit to the shop. do the same if you find the solution!

thanks for the input i will start with the spark plugs and fuel filter. It always starts just sometimes it sputters off and you have to do it a couple of times before it starts. Seems to do it more often when its warmed up.
