Hesitation issues cant solve it

Ok we are talking about a 95 sr5v6 3.0l automatic with 135k miles. Since I bought it there is a hesitation issue with the motor. I am aware that the 3.0 is sluggish and 135k is a lot of miles but I am talking about an artificial slugisshness.
I tired many things and i cant seem to get rid of it, it happens more during acceleration from a dead stop or slow speed low rpm cruising. So far I have replaced the oil, air filter, spark plugs, plug wires, distributor cap and rotor, air intake hose and fuel filter. I even disconnected the battery to try to reset the ecu in the car. I also ran a can of seafoam thru brake booster line. All these made overall improvements on the vehicle lowering noises and increasing the power a tiny bit and giving me a piece of mind, but the majority hesitation issue is still there. Like when you hit the gas the vehicle would not go at %5 or %10 but as soon as %15 throttle is applied it will either jerk forward and move or get the rpm's are even lower and only after flooring the throttle pedal it will come to its senses and start raising the rpm.

I'm having a similar issue with a 1995 3.0l that I just bought. The truck starts fine and idles steady. But there is a hesitation when the pedal is pushed down and the acceleration is rather slow. It does get up to speed eventually. The plugs, wires, timing belt, fuel pump, water pump, and fuel filter are all new.

The check engine light just came on but I can't find anyone with the right connector to read the codes. I heard there is another method to jumper and read teh flashes of the check engine light.

Do these symptoms sound like the TPS as well?

I was checking the throttle position sensor. Here is what I got:

Closed - VTA-E2 - .63k ohms
0.020in gap - IDL-E2 - Open
0.031in gap - IDL-E2 - Open
Fully open - VTA-E2 - 6.25k ohms
VC-E2 - 5.74k ohms.

The 0.020 gap is not supposed to be open according to the manual. I tried to adjust the sensor to get a value of 2.3k ohms or less instead of open for the 0.020 gap but when I do finally get some thing, the closed value ends up under spec at .35k ohms. Do I need to replace the TP sensor, or am I missing something on the adjustment?

how long has it been doing this and is it getting steadly and slowly worse? i had a very similar problem with my celica and it turned out to be the timing belt tensioner had come slightly loose and made the timing belt sloppy, tightened it up and no hesitation at all. the same happened with my 4runner when i bought it a few months back. i figured while i was down there i'd change the timing belt and tensioner spring.. once again solved the problem.

I had a similar problem on mine, It was kinda jerky... The throttle cable had a sticky spot, I replaced it with a $40 used one off eBay and its a smooth as glass now.

DO NOT lubricate the new one (as with power antennas)... Oils will get think with cold weather, and aged oil will also cause it to be sticky... Clean them out with alcohol.

Good evening, have you tried disconnecting the EGR valve. Simply put a golf tee or bolt/screw in the vacuum line. Have worked on loads of vehicles including Toyota with similar symptoms and doing this has corrected the majority of them. Good luck!

sounds like a throttle position sensor problem. Info here

yess man!! i just learned about this in auto! it sounds like a bad tps..(throttle position sensor). it could have a glitch or (dead spot) where it is not sending a voltage signal back and the injectors get shut off for a really brief moment
god i love using what i learned in school!!! :)

same issue

My '94 3.0 soes the same thing cruising at lower RPM's. If I hold it steady around 1,600 to 2,200 RPM's it will start to hesitate and buck a bit. There is a hint of hesitation off the line at anything less than half throttle too. I too have tried, plugs, wires, cap, coil, and air filter. The only thing I haven't tried before I attempt to tackle the TPS is cleaning the airflow sensor. There is a K&N filter on it and I've read that it may lead to residue build up on the airflow sensor. On a side note, the TPS does look it has been replaced before, it's cleaner and newer looking that the rest of the parts there.

Mine used to do this also. Come to think of it after I did the head gasket and had that fixed it improved a heap. I had the timing belt changed at the same time so I would tend to agree with run4yota, perhaps the tensioner is loose.

Ive also had the timing "advanced" around a similar time so im not sure if that helped as well. As i said in another post, im not sure what it was advanced from. Aparently 10 degrees is stock, not sure if my mate advanced it further or if it was originally on 0 for some reason.

My truck always idled at 800rpms when warm and since this "advancing" it now idles less at about 500rpms.

Someone might be able to tell me if that means it was originally correct, or if it is now at the correct advancement.

Acceleration issue

What’s up everybody... So I bought 95 4Runner for my daughter from my mother in law. She replaced the transmission and things but it doesn’t accelerate fast from at a stop in drive. I have to put it in first speed up go to second then put in in drive and it’s fine. Any help would be appreciated.

So I am having somewhat similar issues, however only in 4wd. In 2wd my acceleration is fine with no jumping around. As soon as I go into 4wd it jumps all over like I am jamming the gas pedal on and off. If I coast it’s fine no surge. Only happens while accelerating?? Driving me crazy. All vacuum hoses seem good and in place.

Uh crazy thought, but would someone have swapped in the wrong front or rear diff? One is a different ratio than the other? way out from left field, hopefully it isn't anything like that.

Went through the sluggishness problem recently during my 3.0 build. Freshened up the motor, new plugs, wires, distributor, HG, rings, bearings, water/oil pumps, timing belt etc. Should have run great. Didn't, then threw knock sensor code.

Bypassed knock sensor, still sluggish, after about 75 miles threw o2 sensor code as well as ignition code (code 14).

Replaced o2 sensor, replaced ignition coil module with a used unit, also replaced the fuel filter. Ran great, and got rid of the obvious dogginess on acceleration, but it still wasn't there.

Advanced timing to between 11-13, the engine came alive. No problems accelerating easily through the gears on 33's.

On plugs and wires, I would caution you to use Toyota OEM bits, as well as distributor/cap+rotor. As well as a Denso OEM o2 sensor.

2003 T4R Sport v8

Hello guys, im having problem locating the TPS in the V8 engine. All resources i have seen so far point to the v6 and 3rd gen 4runners. If anyone would be kind enough to show me the location of the TPS in 4th gen v8 i will sincerely appreciate it. My truck currently does not rev past 2000rpm unless it is parked. It sometimes runs sluggishly due to this. It wakes up after driving for a while and the power kicks in but still would not rev past 2000rpm. Any suggestions on what might be the problem apart from the TPS? Thanks, in anticipation.
