What's up guys? Lots of new faces here lately...that's cool. I'm back, hopefully to stay.
Not much has changed lately to my truck besides plenty of new rock rash.
If you're following my build thread, you know that my MultiMode t-case actuator sh!t the bed, I blow CV axles every time I use the truck (in ways Toyota never intended, of course), my upper control arm bushings are wasted and all this has propelled me into the elite group of solid axle swap projects.
Details about the swap will be outlined in my Timeline but I'll be using a pre-85 Toyota 8" minitruck axle, open carrier(for now), All-Pro 3-link and Fox dual-rate coilovers. Should be pretty cool. Been gathering parts for it and we should be firing up the torch come mid-November and it's all downhill from there.
Also have a lead on a TRD Supercharger that I'm keeping my fingers crossed about...

So what's going on here lately? Fill me in!

hahaha I saw the pics and video- I'm glad I got to meet his truck before it's demise...that champ took us all over Seattle when I visited

just a reminder, i have dibs on your skids... lol cant wait to see progress pics. are you coming down for the fall swap meet at raceway park?

A few reasons- All Toyota Drivetrain, availability and price of axle (found this one for $150 caliper-to-caliper), availability of upgrades (TrailGear FTW)...I know I'll have to run 2.5" spacers on the front to match the rear width, but I'm already running spacers so not a big deal.

Honestly I really like the idea of staying all Toyota, I was looking into the FJ60 9.5" but they're rare and expensive. Dana 44's are always an option but I don't need the driver's side drop because I'm using a T100 t-case with passenger side drop. Also not a fan of ball joints...especially for a rock rig

make sure you up grade the stock brakes, go to like fj60 rotors and ifs calipers... and then once you have the wheel spacers on you should have those wheels out far enough to give those rotors some good clean air. i did this with my 85 truck, though im only running a 1.25 wheel spacer up front, but still with the bigger brakes OMG i can not get those things hot, and ive tried trust me ive tried

You are still going to have to run 2.5 inch wheel spacers on the front just to get it out to stock width plus you also have your spidertrax spacers which are another 1.25 in the rear. Also, adding wheel spacers only moves the wheels out. the pivot point for the steering is still going to be 2.5 inches further inboard on each side than it was with IFS. Couple that with having to swap t-cases and reroute your exhaust, i would strongly consider using a waggy D44. If you are hell bent on doing passenger drop, at least do an 80 axle.

Its your truck and you are welcome to do whatever you want with it. Just let me know where to send the "told you so" card after you wheel it for a year :D
