Hey Mr. Can I buy your 4Runner?

Has anyone else had random people come up to them asking to buy your 3rd gen 4Runner?

I had a guy come up to me today while I was out asking if he could buy mine. My 4runner is stock too. It's not like it has tons of nice modifications on it, though it will soon!

I told the guy no by the way. These things are to hard to find in good condition with decently low miles. Even after I said I wasn't interested in selling it he insisted that he give me his phone number to contact him incase I decide to sell it in the future.

I just did the same thing to a older gentleman driving a clean 80 series mid-ninetys landcruiser. He said it wasn't for sale but i gave him my # and told him to keep it in the glovebox in case anything changes. He said "will do". I've bought a lot of vehicles just by walking up to people and asking.

I don't drive my 4Runner very often, anymore. It is surprising to me how often I'm asked if it's for sale, on the occasion that I do take it out for a drive.

For the right price, it's for sale.

'97, SR5, V6, 4wd, 5-speed, E-locker, Anthracite Metallic, factory Oak Leather, Moonroof, Larger optional wheels, tires, and brakes.

I'm the original owner, and it has approx. 124k miles.

I always get offers when I take it in to get routine maintenance done on it. Its always the Toyota mechanics who ask if its for sale. Last one offered me $7,000 for it even with its 281,000 miles on it...

The reality is that I have way more in it than ANYONE will honor me for on sale...

I've had the dealership offer me a very, very reasonable price to trade it in (about what I would CONSIDER selling it for, honestly), but never an individual asking if it's for sale.

Wow, guess our 3rd gens are really desirable haha. I'm sure they are even more desirable if you live out West where the wheeling is abundant. It's nice to know they sell like hot cakes if I ever have to put my 4runner up for sale eventually. That won't be for a very long time though. :driving:

I used to have a small 22 foot class C RV and would get people asking me all the time if I wanted to sell. I got a little PO'd when I started finding notes with people's numbers asking if I wanted to sell? Well I sold it when the kids left home and now that I bought my runner, same thing has started where I am working on it and people driving by will stop and ask. I will go ballistic if they start sticking notes on it though!

Oh you should see HI. A guy wanted $14k for his 01 Ltd with black and silver cladding. Had < 100K miles on it.

We just got back from buying my wife a 2011 Highlander from a Toyota dealership in Sandusky, OH. Two salesmen and the GM immediately asked if we were trading in my 3rd gen. I was honored to have there attention but couldn't help but reply with "hell no". My wife thinks it's funny that my 14 yr old Runner with 180k miles gets that much attention when we're out.
