Hey everybody, I have been lurking for a while now and finally became a member. My primary "hunting vehicle" is a 91 4Runner. Nothing special. Bought it from a toyota tech that had bought the old beast when the head gaskets blew. He rebuilt it, went over everything, and gave it to his daughter as a college vehicle. After she graduated, she got a new vehicle and he sold the 4Runner.

It's not the prettiest thing in the world. It was (poorly) repainted the factory red color, there are numerous character marks, but everything works well save the interior lights. I didn't know at the time that the 3.slow/auto combination would be such a dog, but it still gets down the road. It rides on 31-10.5x15 highway tires and still has the 4.10 open diffs.

Anyway, the reason I joined this forum was for knowledge. I am about to do a mild factory-ish build on it. Moog rear coils, new shocks all around, and new tires are definites. If I am able, I would love to regear to 4.88 and throw a spartan out back. I may even get frisky and build a pair of bumpers and sliders.

Sorry for the long intro post. I just felt like giving a little background. So far, this 4Runner has been in the fleet for a few years and continues to impress. She drinks alot, but is generally mild mannered and doesn't complain.

Welcome! I live over in GA, but ride in Alabama a fair amount. Hopefully heading to Mountainside ORP this weekend in AL for their farewell ride..they're closing the park.

Good luck on the build, but be careful, she can be deceptively addicting (& expensive!) to mold to the woman we want.

Tell ya what. I'll be there. Probably riding shotgun in a lifted Lexus LX450 on 37" MTRs (or slick 35" boggers). Feel free to yell at me and say hello. There is a ride in Choccolocco the weekend after the Mountainside closing. That should be nuts. From what I hear, there is an outstanding challenge to any Ranger side by side wheeler, so I expect a bunch of them will show up.

Doubt the ole 4Runner will make it to any offroad parks for a little bit. I don't intend for it to be a hardcore offroad warrior, but I would like to make it through a few of the easier trails. I may be able to make the Choccolocco run with it though. Depends on when I am able to get some new shoes.

Good deal! Yeah, I should be fairly easy to spot, as 4Runners are few and far between at these things. So, keep an eye out for my black 3rd Gen with a GATrailRiders (they are my local group I ride with) banner on the front window and I will keep an eye out for a Lexus (another rare find on these rides!).

Yeah, it took me a while to get it trail-worthy, and I'm still far from done with the mods. My most recent upgrade with 5.29 gears and ARB lockers front & rear has made a BIG difference, though!

See ya!
