Hi! from wichita kansASS and a problem??

First off, let me say Hello and i hope to learn a lot from this forum. secondly I have looked quite a bit through here and I do know there is a search function to make use of. BUT ( there always is a big butt) i have to get this problem fixed and quick as my wife is a nurse and does not drive..... anyways here we go, I have a problem with my key not wanting to turn in the ignition. it used to do it for a bit then finally work, it has now come to the point that it will not turn at all anymore. i cannot get the key into the ACC position to remove the tumbler. right now i am at the part where i have removed the two bolts holding up the steering and could remove the screws on the ignition. but i do not know what to do at this point. will disconnecting the battery help with turning the key into the ACC position?
i have never seen that question addressed and that is the one i have been wondering i do not want to take anything apart or off that i do not have to. I can take pictures if that would help I am just broke and trying to fix this as cheaply as i can as i do not get my next student loan check till the end of September. thanks in advance. also if anyone needs help with computers, i can trade knowledge with you.. I am Toyota stupid. i guess admitting you have a problem is the first step, right?:lol:

Replace your ignition lock cylinder. Takes maybe 10 minutes to swap out, very easy.

Key won't turn

I have the problem also. For me it is a matter of the key not being fully seated or inserted. If I'm patient and gentle with a little wiggle and jiggle, the key will go in another fraction of an inch, we are talking a 32nd or less, and it functions as normal.

The above thread has options listed. New ignition will have you carrying multiple keys. The solution I will use when forced or get around to it is to take out the ignition and get it to a locksmith.

got a locksmith to come out and rebuild the tumbler and install it for $75. now considering that the new tumbler from O'Reiley's was $69 with a lifetime warranty. i will pay $6 for an install. i did the math and it works for me!!! he hasn't returned with it yet so i will report back with how it works and the quality of work. My Bad Day Just Turned Around!!!:reddance:

i see where it would not take that long BUT... when you cant get the switch to the ACC, that's where it becomes to much for a guy like me. i could not hit the button on the tumbler to release it. that is why i called in the pro. thanks All for the welcomes too! this seems like a great forum!!
