Can anyone tell me what this plug/harness does? It’s plugged into the ignition cylinder housing(its the smaller of the two wiring harnesses.) I was having an issue where intermittently I couldnt get the key to the off/lock position and in turn couldn’t take the key out of the ignition. Did that on two different ignition housings and I then realized that if I unplugged that it fixed it but I’m not sure how crucial whatever that wiring harness is. It didnt seem to change a whole lot other than the steering wheel no longer locks and the annoying dinging when the key is in the ignition and the door is open went away.

Shift interlock solenoid. Won't let you remove key if not fully in park.
If you have and auto trans your shifter might be out of adjustment. Quick test, plug that connector back in, start the car, push the shifter forward in park (keep forward pressure on shifter). Shut off engine and see if it unlocks. If it does, the shifter needs adjustment or the pivot bushings are worn out (wobbly shifter lever).
