Hi everybody,

I just signed up. I own a 2004 4Runner Limited with the V8. I've also had a Tacoma in the past. My primary use of this truck is as a tow vehicle. I am very happy with the truck, and came here to find out how to shut off the "maint" light. Already figured it out by doing a search, so I know this board will give me the knowledge to keep my truck running. Thanks.

Here is the only pic I have of it. Getting ready to tow the car up to Canada.

PS I had to send my truck back to the stealer FOUR times to get the windshield wipers to work properly, am I the only one that had this problem??

Welcome the board! That is a great looking 4Runner but the BMW M3 it is towing is AMAZING! What exactly happened to you wipers?

"Maint" Light


Hey! Welcome to the forum, sir!

I had the same problem with my "MAINT" light a few weeks ago. There is someone here by the handle of 'Sharp4Runner' who posted the tip to me on how to reset it. Actually, it was very simple.

I'll try to find the old post with the answer, but it involved turning the key on (but not to the 'start' position) and holding in the trip odometer reset button until it flashes three times.

I've gotta run in a few minutes, but I'll look for it tonight when I log on again. Of course, this forum being what it is, someone will come along and post the solution before I return.

Thanks for the welcome guys! I actually found the "maint" light fix on this site last night. Here it is.......


1. Turn ignition switch to "ON" position
2. Set odometer/trip display to "ODO" mode
3. Turn ignition switch to "OFF" position
4. Depress and hold the Trip Meter "RESET" button while turning the ignition switch to the "ON" position
5. The service maintenance reminder light will:

i. Illuminate solidly for 3 seconds
ii. Blink for 2 seconds
iii. Illuminate solidly for 1 second
iv. Turn off

6. Release the Trip Meter "RESET" button
7. Turn the ignition switch to the "OFF" position
8. Turn the ignition to the "ON" position and confirm that the service maintenance reminder light goes out.

As far as my wipers were concerned, they wouldnt stop. The intermediate setting didnt work at all, and if the wipers were on, they would stop the instant they were switched off. I always played that game of stopping the wipers so they wouldnt be in my line of vision. Everything from the relays to the wiper motors/transmissions was replaced under warranty. Not too big of a deal in the end, but very un Toyota like. Just wanted to know if I was the only one.
