Hi-Lift Jack Storage

Is it safe to store a hi jack on stock roof rails/bumpers? If so, how and which?

I think I did four separate searches and they came up with mounting points (where to actually use the jack) and pictures of jacks mounted on aftermarket roof racks, bumpers, or hitch mounts. Figured I would ask the question directly.

I'm not a fan of the outside storage. If you attach it when you're heading out offroad, that's one thing, but I think the permanent storage is a bad idea. I'd be worried about it being a target for thieves, and getting rusted up if you live in a rainy climate. They're hard enough to use as it is without being all rusty, haha.

I don't know about the different gens of the T4R, but when I used to carry my 48" HiLift in my Jeep ZJ, it would fit right under my rear seat, along with a snatch strap, receiver shackle, and a pair of gloves. Flip the seat bottoms up, and there it was, ready to go.

i had mine mounted to the roof rack before i built a mount on my tire swing out
i bought one of the covers (yes they break down in the sun light) but i would
unzip the cover, spray in some wd40 every few months and you're good to go
i drilled a hole in one of the mounting bolts and put in a padlock
not much will stop a hard core thief if he really wants it but in 3 years i never had trouble

I was looking for a place inside the 4Runner to mount my Hi-Lift during my upcoming trip. First, I was thinking about removing the second row seat and make a kind of attachment. Then I noticed there is some spacing between the seat and the floor. To my surprise, the Hi-Lift handle fits perfectly there and the metal base has enough room between the seat and the door. Perfect for now!

jack mount

I have been wondering the same thing trying to find a good place to store mine and if it will actually be able to be stable up there without shaking lose from time to time.
