Hi everyone,

New to this forum because, well, just picked up an 08 sr5 v8 4x4. The v8 is oh soo smooth. I didnt test drive a v6 (had to get v8 4x4 for tax purposes). I'm liking everything about it, or it could just be the new car effect:) This is my first 4x4 and hoping to put that aspect to good use one day soon.

I do have one question....kinda bugs me, but everytime a shift to park mode, all of my doors unlock. Anyway to prevent this? thanks.

I'm sure there is but it would involve pulling a relay out which may also disable something else or throw an error in the ECU. Just guessing though.

I think the 4R has the child safety locks in the back which keeps the back doors from being opened from the inside if engaged even when unlocked normally. Someone else may need to correct me on that.
 
There is an easy way to disable/modify your lock settings. Check your manual and it should tell you how to do that. Some people has had problems doing it and if you have issues just bring it to the dealer and they should be able to help you out.

:iagree: The manual does have the procedure but on my '07 I couldn't do it. The dealer should do it no problem. If the service writer wants to charge you just politely say no thank-you, you'll try it yourself and go get the salesman involved...
 
Thanks all. I'm working on pics, and I guess I should read the manuel more closely...just skimmed through it.

Did I mention I really like the v8 and its smooth and quick acceleration?:)
 
What did the V8 model do to help you with your taxes? I don't know of any way that could possibly help with taxes. You're not talking about the 6500 lb exemption, are you? If so, you might want to consult your tax attorney.
 
I did...it is 6000lb GVWR, not 6500lb.

also must be built off of a truck chasis I believe, but the weight thing is more important I think.

4runner v8 4x4 comes in at 6005lb GVWR.
 
The manual shows you how to switch it in the 08.. there are 4 settings you can do. I have no idea where it is in the manual but i remember reading it that you can have it lock automatically when you take it out of park or when you go over 12mph and there were 2 other options which should fix the issue you are having. so no relay work.
 
Thanks to all of the advice...I was able to fix the door unlock thing after further reading of the manual.

Yes, I realize it is gross vehicle weight, as no 4Runner ever built has approached a 6000 lb curb weight.

But still, I think you're in for a surprise when you get around to doing your taxes. The IRS changed the rules long ago. Research IRS Rev Proc 2003-75 for more information.

BTW, that tax code was originally written for farmers to help them write off some of their farming costs with their fullsize trucks. Then everyone and his brother started buying Hummers and other large SUVs and taking advantage of the tax laws. Once the IRS realized that people were using it as a tax loophole, the code was quickly changed. Your tax attorney should have been well aware of that.
 
My friend, thank you for the info, but I have discussed this with my CPA at length, and its not too complicated to read up on. This is only one of many legitimate business deductions I will take. In short please look up or review section 179. If you'd like to discuss further please PM me; I think the members on this forum do not want to be bored by tax talk;):
