HID Conversion vs. HID Retrofit

conversion in my sense is plug-and-play bulbs
retrofit in my brain is putting a projector in

HID conversion into projectors:
Projectors = 259USD for two
Spare 4runner headlights = 65USDeach side
Two D2R bulbs + ballasts = $400CDN

OR

HID in my reflector headlights:
Two D2R bulbs rebased into 9006 base = 350CDN
eBAY link to bulbs

So those are my two options, one just costs... twice as much. I've seen the hid retrofit and they look great. beam patter, glare, everyone is great. Now, people that have put HIDs in their reflector system... how much glare? how well does it light up the road? what's the beam pattern?

Of course the retrofit would be the BEST thing to do, but shelling out that much money and time on HIDs is a little too much. Now, If someone was willing to make one more me..... I'd pay them to do it... as long as the quality is there. I'm not much of a "hands-on project" person as I really don't have the patience.

anymore pictures of people putting HIDs into the reflectors? beam pattern, light on the road, glare, anything.

Retrofit

I did a retrofit with the XenonDepot 4300K kit and I love it.

There's a link to the thread with pics. Some people commented that it looked like the HID had some glare, but I believe that is because that pic was taken much closer to the garage than the pics of the Silverstar light pattern.

I have had the kit for a while now and have not gotten any complaints about brightness or glare. No one has flashed me, and my friends who have driven in front of me say it's fine.

The kit is powerful even in the rain, much like my old S2000 which had projector HID's standard. The silverstars tended to wash out with any road wetness.

I believe XenonDepot had some great spring prices going for a while. I'm not sure if that's still going on.

They do some good work, check the website and you can see all the projects done. The guy that does them is in Texas...not sure how much the shipping would cost to Canada iForce but I have talked with the guy that runs that site and does all the work and he knows what he is doing. The way I know he works is you could get all the items you need ie. projectors, spare headlights and ship them to him then he will ship you back the finished product. All aligned and ready to go. If you want more info I can email him and see what the cost would be for you but again as you said it will be atleast double the cost of plug and play.
