I will be installing an hid kit in my 06 T4R sport this summer (hopefully), and I'm just looking for some wisdom from anyone who has done this. Good kits, bad kits, and any info that would be useful. I know retrofitting is the way to go, but seems like much more time and $. any expertise is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

i drive a 07 sport v6 4x4 ,i have the 55watt h11 5000k hid kit from www.retro-solutions.com
its good with our projectors, and its only like 190 shipped, lifetime warranty.
xenon-depot kits are alright, but they lack customer service when they ship u a wrong item. not to hate , but its a lil true.

its pure white, and i have yellow nokya bulbs in the fogs, but the output on the hid is pure white.
I just put a 3000K kit in my fogs lamps. Search ebay for 'super slim hid'. He overcharges for shipping, but you can get a kit for about 80 bucks. Competition has brought prices down a lot !!!
No need to spend 200 bucks for one kit.
I have a 4300K kit for my reflector headlamps.
The toughest part of the installation is figuring out where to put the ballasts.
For the right side, one balast is stuck to the air intake plastic and another is velcroed to the corner of the inside panel.
On the left side, both are attached to my battery. (as in stuck to the sides)
I'd double up on an order, and sandwich two ballasts together w/ double sided tape and stick them (w/ velcro) to the intake and on the other side to the battery.

lawwailok, I have your write up bookmarked its very good. Just curious, how did you retrofit you runner? Did you put in new projectors or utilize the stock ones? If you kept the projectors how did the bulbs fit?

Just a little snippet from a recently dissatisfied el cheapo customer that gave us premission to quote him:
"When I was shopping for kits I thought the US sellers were making false claims to support their higher priced kits,,I see false claims all the time,,,just this time they are certainly well warranted!!!
Im now at over $325 in 2 seperate kits and 2 months wasted time,,, dealing with vvme and kassabian ,,,
I still dont have the correct kit!!!
I didnt tell you about the Kassabian kit that came with a bent up and defective telescoping h4 bulb that he wouldnt warranty and claimed he never recieved when I shipped it back to him!!
The scumbag vvme knew that having me pay for the kit at his website,off ebay,,I would have NO warranty or support through paypal,,Amazing when you buy anything not on ebay,,paypal provides zero support or insurance!!

These guys really take the cake,,glad I was only ripped for $140 this time.

My initial headlight kit cost $300. I got (OEM) denso ballasts (pretty large) and Phillips (german) D2R bulbs. The D4R/D4S bulbs produce more wattage at 55w and I believe they are OEM in new Lexus cars. 35watts is more than enough for my reflector housings.
I got my 3000K kit in 3 days. They had excellent feedback. The connectors on my kit were actually pretty nice. The connections were insulated to keep water out. The kit itself starts as a 9005 kit w/ an extension piece that lets you connect to the factory 9006 harness. No harm no foul as long as the kits connect. I try to stay away from the kits that need to be connected to the battery.

Looks like you've gotten relativetly good information so far.
Just a couple of things to point out though:
1) Anytime you hear that a merchant is offering a lifetime warranty on a product a red flag really should come up. How can a merchant offer you a legitimate life time warranty on a product? What happens if the merchant goes out of business in 6 months? Your lifetime warranty has now been reduced to a 6 months warranty. This is the case with 99.9% of the vendors out there. Just make sure you do your homework before buying. I'm confident that if you do a search about us as well as retrosolutions you will find the results generally quite positive.
2) dheeter - your vehicle uses an H11 bulb for the low beams meaning that you would need to order an H11 HID conversion kit.
3) We have been a vendor on this board for approximately one year now. I would say that the most popular colour temperature on this board is 4300k. The 4300k kit will provide you with the brighetst possible output and with yoru OEM projector headlamps you still will get some colour depending on what angle you view the light from.
4) Our kits come use Japanese bulbs and ballasts to ensure proper fitment and beam patterns. The ballasts that we use are epoxy sealed to ensure that they are water tight. This product will come with a one year warranty. XenonDepot has been selling HID lighting products since 2001 so you know that you are dealing with a legitimate company. I am not sure what specifically riceandpho is referring to however our number one source of business is referrals from satisfied customers. We would not have been in business this long (especially on the internet) if we lacked customer service.

in clubrsx.com, u guys never respond to those guys orders, thats all im tryin to say, wish u guys still had the phillips kit, but im really satisfied with retro-solutions, im gettin my 2000k kit soon lol.

go to www.retro-solutions.com and then email him, his name is todd, i just got some 2000k hids for the fogs and i tell u what, its hella yellow and better than the nokya i got. anyways the xenon-depot brand xtreme kits are rebage mcclouch. they should of kept the phillips kit on there site.
so far what i have on my set up is

35watt 2000k 9006 (160)
both kit is digital and they are great
i had some 55watt 5000k h4 bixenon in my 96 base 4runner, and it was totaled after it got rolled 4times wen i had the hit and run, i put the kit in my dad 06 tacoma dc lb, and it still works, after so much impact, the lights still work. quality kit from www.retro-solutions.com

We have sold literally thousands of HID conversion kits to both ClubRSX members and T4R members. Our number one source of business is actually referrals and positive word of mouth. We have been selling HID lighting products since 2001 and would not have been able to stay in business this long online if we lacked customer service or support. Granted, sometimes mistakes are made however we do our best to ensure that ultimately our customers are happy and satisfied.
