HID or High Performance Halogen bulbs

Good evening. I'm planning to install an HID system or halogen high performance bulbs, like PIAA, Sylvania Silverstar, ..., for my 2007 SR5 4Runner. Since it only has 4 months of being purchased, does it will void the vehicle warranty? Thanks!!!

That is hard to answer with a yes or a no.

Toyota would not honor a warranty claim resulting directly or indirectly from alteration or tampering, including the use of non-genuine Toyota parts.

So you just need to be careful and understand the risk of your modification. Having said that, a headlamp conversion is pretty low risk.

If you go with a plug and play HID kit, like the Xenon Depot kits, you can always remove the kit and revert back to stock if a problem arises. If you do HID retrofit, then the headlight housings wouldn't be warranted, since it's been modified.

If you decide to change your bulbs, I recommend against going with higher wattage bulbs. That will potentially cause damage to the stock wiring harness and housing due to the increased wattage. Use the same wattage bulbs. If you're sticking with the bulb route, look into HIR bulbs.

For the warranty to be voided, Toyota has to prove that modification you've done caused the part(s) to fail. So installing a stereo system in your car, Toyota can't deny your warranty claim if the transmission fails.

Im Biased =)

The main thing though is that you want to go with a plug+play kit if you do go the HID route.

We actually work with dealerships as our kits come with a relay harness that will ensure you do not draw a higher current from the OEM headlight harness than it was designed to provide. With the harness installed, all you will be using your vehicle's OEM headlight harness for is simply to trigger the lights on/off.

Ditto about the higher wattage halogen bulbs. Be really careful. I have seen/heard horror stories. From personal experience though, i find that in general they burn out really quickly and are not inexpensive to replace.

Thank you very much for all your advises!!!

I was asking about it because my 4-Runner has projector headlamps, and I think that if I want to upgrade them, I will need better an HID system, like the one from Xenon Depot. I compared several types of vehicles with halogen bulbs in a projector housing, for example Sylvania Silverstar, and they look a little yellowish. I don't know if you are aware of a halogen bulb with a good white output using the default wattage, but as I could research, there is nothing like the HIDs.
