HID To get, or not to get?

I just wanted to see what people on this forum think about using an HID conversion kit on a 1997 4runner?

Do you guys advise it? or not? with regards to it being illegal because of the glare it produces? Does anyone has experiences with HID and encounters with the law? How easy it is to tell that the HID are illegal on a 4runner?

If you're not going to do a proper retrofit, don't do it. Those cheap plug and play kits only blind on-coming traffic and gives you no benefit in light output.

Hell yeah I would recommend it, I've got HID's on my 02 4Runner, they look awesome and the light output is great. There's not to bad of a glare either.

With HIDs mounted in a simple reflector housing (like in our 4Runners for example), the beam pattern will be all over the place. You will not get that sharp cut-off like real projectors produce.

The only adjustment you can make with HIDs mounted in reflector housings, is to adjust the height of both headlights so they both at least are level. Light spread though, will still be all over the place.

Fo_SheeZy, no offense, but in the pictures of your HIDs here - Click Me, it looks like they ARE producing a good amount of glare. Hurts my eyes just looking at the photos . I could not imagine driving towards you.

Personally longeeMAC , I would suggest against a plug-n-play HID kit. If you are going to do it, do it right and retro-fit a pair of real projectors into your 4Runner reflector housings. I'm working on this very mod at the moment. :bigok:

Yeah I know what you mean Rock, the photos appear as if the glare is really bad. But in all honesty, the glare is not that bad at all. I haven't been flashed once by any oncoming drivers.

Yeah I wouldn't want to cause anyone danger on thr road, I'm not like that. You see I originally had 8,000k HID's and they were blinding, when I first turned them on they were blue but after they heated up they turned into a blinding white light. I knew I was blinding others on the road so I had to look for something that was acceptable and safe. And I definitely scored with these HID's. :bigok:
