Hidden compartment in cargo area

Hey all.

There is a narrow "hidden" compartment directly behind the rear seats that has a carpeted lid onto of it. I was wondering if anybody has found a toolbox or anything that might fit in there.

Please post pics if you have done something to that area.

I imagine it could be a handy place to store small tools and stuff.

Nope but I forgot it was there. I think i might store some in there with some flares.

I've looked at 3 different 5th gen T4R's and there are NO hidden compartments behind the rear seats, only tie down straps bolted to the rear deck. Maybe earlier ones were different??

Maybe you saw the 5th gens with the 3rd row seat?

I know mine (With no 3rd row) has the hidden compartment...
Not much you can fit in there, but it's there.

No, none of the 3 that I looked at were 3rd row seats, all standard SR5's, Again, the only thing behind the seats are two tie down hooks that are bolted to the deck so removing any carpet around them would be very difficult. Maybe some of the earlier ones were different?

My SR5 has it - Great place for my Tow Strap, Jumper Cables, Tie Down Rope, and a few basic tools, and still have a little room to spare! My Durango had a larger one in the very rear, I was glad to see there was at least something in the new 4R. I hate to have all of that stuff not tucked away. I just wish my old foldable army shovel would fit in there, oh well, might have to design a mod for that

I think you are looking too far back. this is directly behind the rear seats. If you have the pull out cargo tray, pull it out and look at the part that is still in place (that hasnt moved). The lid that I mentioned is right there. You can see the "cut out" of where the lids snaps on. Look again. Hopefully you find it.

Nope... mine was just delivered to the lot a couple days before I picked it up August 16th so unless they just decided to get rid of it in the past week, the "earlier" ones should be the same. My only thought now is that it must just be on the models with the sliding rear deck only.

i've got a bottle of water, some rope, a few granola bars, various wrenches and some cable ties in there.

The difference seems to be the cargo tray, None of the ones I looked at (including mine) have this cargo tray. Directly behind the rear seats are two cargo tie down hooks that are bolted to the deck. I guess if you have a slide out cargo tray you have this compartment

I had second thoughts about the sliding cargo tray after getting it, but it sure came in handy this past weekend in loading a large iced down cooler into the cargo area.

I like to keep extra tie down straps (for the roof rack) and a few assorted tools for camping in my compartment.

I to thought the slide out was a gimmick I'd never use, but I have to say, it's come in handy quite a few times already. As for the small narrow compartment, while not the biggest storage compartment, I'm able to fit a fly rod, reel and some flies for those, "hey there's a good spot" moments.

The sliding tray was one of the deciding factors to buy sooner rather than later. I have a bad back and it is better to lift items onto the extended tray rather than lifting and reaching into the back.

When I first saw it, I was mad that you couldn't get a LTD without it OR the 3rd row, but now that I have it, I use it way more than I would have thought. We loaded a huge corner china cabinet onto it and then just slid it right into the truck once we balanced it on the tray.

The thing that bugs me is that there is no compartment on either side near the back of the truck. Would be nice to fabricate some sort of custom box to go on either side of where the cargo deck slides out.

OK, I brought the pic of the slide-out tray over from the referenced thread. Pardon my ignorance here, but I don't yet own a 5th Gen T4R (I am in the due diligence/research phase), so I don't have a 5th Gen handy to go look at.

Anyway, I am very very interested to know where I could stash a few tools and so forth if I purchase one of these (I would be buying a LE). Could someone kindly take this pic into photoshop and circle the area where the lid is to access the hidden compartment? And how does one pop the compartment open?

Thanks very much! I suspect if not now, from time to time others such as myself researching a 5th Gen purchase would appreciate this if someone could take the time.

OK, thanks! So is the width of the compartment some 80% or so of the width of the floor, as it kind of appears in the pic? Or is it less than that once you pop the lid off?
