Tl;Dr: can you tune a v8 for a crap load of power? How much?
Hey guys and gals. I have a weird pipe dream I'd like to share, and I want to know if it's feasible. I'm hoping your combined knowledge and experience will help me out!
First, is it possible to 'tune' the 4.7L? I know I can take my motorcycle and get it tuned at a shop to produce more peak power and torque with just a simple intake, header, exhaust rework.
Second, using the above logic, could I expect to see significant gains from a thorough airflow revamp? We already have a psuedo cold air from the fender, but I could see me running it though a snorkel or even fabbing a hood scoop intake to put it directly in fresh, cold, clean air, while adding in a throttle body spacer, because I'm already that far in, why not.
Removing a set of cats and replacing the remaining set with high flow, along with new headers and appropriately sized Y pipe, and a less restrictive muffler would round this out. I would say dual, but where are you going to run a true x-pipe under there?
Third, and finally, the goal would be a significant increase in power, not just horses. I feel like an appropriate tune bring the 320lb/ft closer to 350lb/ft, and the 270 hp into the the low 300's. (325...? :fingerscrossed: ) This is |guesswork| based on the small differences I've seen claimed across the different, smaller mods without opening up a laptop. I feel like cracking the laptop open will provide that tool, if it's available.

To be clear, I'm not trying to drag race, and I'm not lacking for power. I just want to have this vehicle at the peak of it's potential.
The unreal version would be dreaming of 350hp and 450lb/ft. I know (feel) that's not doable without a different engine or a forced induction set up. I've already looked into the archive threads here on t4r, and I see two lunatics years ago fit the non-VVTi TRD supercharger into the 2005 Tundras with different approaches, and general success. One used a ninth injector and separate fuel tank, and one got larger injectors and had a guy sit and remap while they drove. I don't have access to that level of expertise, and I don't think that forced induction is the way to go longterm.
However, I feel like letting the engine breath as much and as fast as it can will provide it the best solution for increasing power, without increasing the pressures inside, IF the actual engine maps can be adjusted the same way with natural aspiration.
I've googled tunes, but the V8 engine is lovable adoringly by few and neglected by the masses. It just isn't the focus of the aftermarket community, as far as I can tell.
I'm happy to hear all sides and experiences cause my 2005 V8 is almost finished with restoration. Just needs some cosmetic surgery and it'll be ready to actually start messing with. I'm on tapatalk so forgive my spelling.
