HID'S For FOG's dont seem to work! Help!

Hey guys,

I have a 01 SR5 and just recently installed HIDs for my low's. As soon as i finished that, i attempted to install a set of HIDs in my stock fog's. All i get is One flicker when i turn them on. I realized that the HIDs are 35w, and my original output is 55w. i already bought a "canceler" that they said should convert 55w to 35w. Even with this, they still don't stay on. My lows work fine, with or without the canceler. If you guys have any suggestions, i would really appreciate it.

Did you use the stock wiring or are you using a wire harness that connects directly to the battery? Had a similar issue with Lows due to the stock wiring not being able to supply enough amperage to power the ballast.

I checked the connections 10 times. There doesn't seem to be any connection problem. I am using the original wiring. i was told only to use a "relay" if i have a bi xenon light. I am not using a bi xenon light, i just have the lows. What do you guys think? What is a relay anyways? and do you think i should use it? Thanks a lot guys

Best practice when using HIDs is to use the wire harness which includes the relay and fuse.

The HID's i got are apparently are "plug n play". Should i be purchasing a new harness, or just the relay wires? Are the relay wires universal, or do i need to ask for a specific one? what should i be expecting to do when i purchase the relay wires? How do you install them to the ballast? sorry for the million questions, i'm just sick of not being able to install them! haha Thanks

Thanks again, your right, it looks fairly easy. Hppefully i don't screw this up some how lol. I picked up my HID's from a local store. Are your lows 6k or 8k? Do you know the watt output for your runner(im assuming its 55w) Are your HID's 35w also? If so, did you run into any complications with the different wattage? I'm probably going to pick up the relay right after work, and hopefully i can post some pics. Thanks, this definitely helped me out.

no problem. the picture shows my 35 Watt Low (4300K color) and Fog (3000K), but just upgraded to 55 Watt (6000K) over the weekend (no pictures just yet). The pictures i took of the harness and ballast are from my 35 Watt Low setup. Never had any issues with flickering or powering off after awhile, when using the wire harness. I had similar setup on my 95 4runner. I had issues at first when i tried powering the HIDs on the factory wiring. All i can say is the harness solved all the problems. good luck.

How big a difference is it between the 35w and 55w?

you dont need anything inline to bring the harness' power down to 35w, that's all built into the ballast in a plug and play kit...because, well, it's designed to plug and play

I forgot to mention, i disabled my Daytime Running Lights by just cutting the wire and taping it up. Will this give me any problems after installing the realy?

I don't believe the daytime lights are controlled by the on/off light switch or the fog light switch so there shouldn't be any issues there. but worst case, you connect the daytime wire and have HID daytime lights.

As for the difference in 35 and 55 Watt. It is significantly brighter, I had to lower the beam pattern a tad compare to when the 35's were plugged in. I believe the specs say it outputs 30% more light. I will take some pictures with one 35 and one 55 powered on the same time and post them.

Do you know if i can test to make sure the HID kit is even working? i tried connecting it directly to the battery and i still get the same results ( one initial flick, and then NOTHING) I did this same test with my lows (which ARE working) and i got the same results. Correct me if i'm wrong but doesn't the relay do exactly as what i just tried? So what im assuming is, if it doesnt work when its connected directly to the battery, what will the relay do? Am i missing something here? Thanks again!

Well its finally done! i haven't installed them but i tried everything out and the relay was the missing piece to the puzzle. I cant thank you guys enough! as soon i get them installed i will definitely post some pics!!! i wish i could help you guys like u guys did for me! hopefully someday!! RIDE SAFE!!

I have 8k for lows and fog, i think i will be exchanging them for 10k or 12k. Apparently i blew out both fogs, but i had my friends kit so i was able to try them. The warranty i have is awesome. He is willing to exchange them with no questions, and he will be delivering them to be ( im only like 15 miles away). My friends 12k look really nice, and they dont look "purple" at all. They look like a brighter version of my 8k.

35 watt 4300k vs 55 watt 6000k

Ok so finally went and took some pictures. over all the 55 watt definitely puts out a lot more light, but more noticeable in the hot spot or center, not so much on the outer flooding area. On dark streets, alleys, and trails these light are gonna light the path for sure.

Can clearly see the driver side 55 watt is brighter with a halo around the light, and the passenger side is a tad less without a halo.
