HIDs in stock fog lights?

Ok so i just ordered my HIDs for my headlights and i was thinking of picking up a set of HIDs possibly for my fogs but i noticed that everyone that has HIDs in their fogs purchase Hella Micro DEs.

So my question is if anyone has actually tested to see if the HID bulbs fit into the fog light housing? Im just curious as to what reasons does an HID kit not work into the stock housing and require you to purchase the Micro DE? I dont want to spend money on different fog lights so if it cant be done then i guess ill just stick to the silverstars i have in them.

I have read up on so many installs of fogs but cant find any info on someone testing and giving reasons on why it wont work so im just trying to get an answer so that others with this question can also look here as a reference.

I have HID's in both my headlights and fog. I use a standard HID kit in both. I had to drill a hole in the Fog housing so that i can run the wires out. On a normal HID Bulb, the wires stick out of the bulb just a little far so the housing does not close properly. I had to find this out the hard way because i ordered my lights not knowing they wouldn't fit exactly. I basically drilled a little hole and put the bulb right in. I then covered it with rubber cement to hopefully prevent any moisture. So far i have been running these for about 5 months and have no issues. if you already bought the lights and cant return them, pm me and i can give you details on what i did.

I have them in my Hella's. Had to custom do up something to hold them in correct and make a slightly larger hole in the rubber boots for the wires to come thru but besides that all is well.

Be sure to buy the hid relay kit/harness for the fogs as well.

ok taiko, thats wat i figured but since i nvr heard of any info on anyone trying that method i just wasnt sure. I havent ordered the HIDs for my fogs yet but cant see spending 150+ on some Micro DEs that i dont really need. I figured the wire was the problem and i would just cut a hole and silicone it but if it doesnt connect correctly then ill just figure out some kind of spacer for it too.

hey justin, ya i have been thinking about trying to get some HIDs for all PIAAs but thats gonna get expensive so i might just end up doing the ones on the top of my brush guard (level with the headlights).

ok no offense dude but if u read the thread u would have seen that i said i DONT want to get Micro DEs since i personally think its a waste of money to replace something i have that works fine.
