High beam headlights

Flickering on the high beam bulb is caused in DRL mode because the lights work at a lower wattage. LED bulbs can't dim so they flicker instead when not getting enough power so this is why a canbus is needed to fix this issue. However, the canbus will cause the LED lights to be on at full brightness in DRL mode.

I don't mind the minimal flicker I'm getting in my 4Runner, I looked at it for a while yesterday in DRL mode and I really had to look at the lights to even notice there was a flicker. I haven't run with DRL's on the road yet, but plan on getting some 1st person opinions from others before I do.

The DRL delete mod is also always an option too, which may be the route I take once my Aiden James DRL's show up 90+ days and counting...

I had the wife go look at the led DRL's sans canbus and she didn't notice a flicker until I mentioned it to her, then she could only notice what she described as more of a buzzing than a flicker.

In day light conditions I'm not sure this will be an issue, maybe it varies from vehicle to vehicle?

I'll try taking some video and posting it up.
EDIT:The video frequency made it appear as if the lights are flashing slowly like hazard lights.

I would not recommend allowing the LED lights to flicker as this can prematurely damage the lights.

I would either disable the DRL or use a canbus to fix this issue.

Do they flicker even if you don't use them in the DRL mode? I'll never use my DRL.

They will only flicker in DRL mode because it's not getting enough power. You would have to disable the DRL for them not to come on.

No, they only flicker in DRL mode due to reduced voltage going to the light. if you don't use the DRL's you won't have an issue and they work fine when switched on as high beams.

i'm seeing a few photos of these that have been put into the wrong housing all with bubbled sides, it looks like heat is an issue

I've been using 9011 for two years now, in both low and high beam. Haven't had to replace a bulb yet. I have the cheapo blacked out depo headlights on my '03. No heat issues. I did have to lower the beam and rarely get flashed by oncoming drivers. I've had a friend drive my 4runner toward me and they are not nearly as bad as HID bulbs in reflector headlights.

Do you mean H9 in the lows? The 9011 has a completely different base than the stock H11 lows.

Sorry I'm an idiot. I have a '03 4th gen and this is a 5th gen forum.
But it is basically running a high beam 65w bulb in place of the low beam 55w.
I originally tried it with running a 9005 65w bulb and those didn't last long. I've been very impressed with the longevity and light output of the 9011
