high beams don't work - but flash does??

Hi there,

Since I bought the car the high beams haven't worked. Anyone know where to start?

When you pull the lever on the steering column the blue light on the dash indicates that high beam is on, and then the lights go out. When I flash, or hold the lever back the high beams work.

It's a 1991, with 209,000 miles.

Anybody that can offer any advice?

Many thanks

I had a very simular problem so I did a tecnical procedure to fix it. I just removed the steering column and jiggled the wires and the giggled the relays to the left of your feet when you drive. Believe it or not it worked. lol

Since they work under some circumstances you can rule out bulbs, fuses, etc. Sounds like the switch is worn, and needs replacing.

Sounds like a relay to me, the fact that the low beams go out and the indicator light comes on would seem to say that the switch is fine. I would jiggle or replace the headlight relay.
