High elevation 22R and 22RE tuning

I'm curious as to what you all do to help with elevation. Around here my base timing with the pins jumped is 7 degrees before spark knock starts. My daily driving ranges from 900-600 ft elevation. When I went to Colorado, I took everything I needed.....but a timing light. Looking back, I really wish I would have been able to tinker with it. At 7000 ft +, mine really really felt weak. Playing at around 13000 ft one time, I had to clutch it while holding it almost wide open on an obstacle that here that would have been just over idle. I understand the thinner air will make less, but I also know how much difference a couple degrees of timing made around here. Are you guys used to it, or do you tune around it?

What have you done to yours?

Good topic.

I'm generally anywhere from 4500 to 7000 feet. I've pushed mine as far as 15 on regular and didn't ever get any knock. I also didn't notice it perk up significantly, so I backed it off to 10 BTDC and that's where I leave it. Good to know that I might have to back that off or run higher octane if I travel to lower elevations!

Out of curiosity, were you running regular? Did you notice that regular octane in CO is 95? You normally run 97 octane, right? I wonder if you started knocking on 95 octane and your knock sensor retarded your timing bad enough to gimp your motor.

Our fuel grades here run from 87 for Regular 89-91 Mid Grade 92-93 High.

On 87 at 8 deg jumped, I get spark knock, at 7 I do not.
