High idle help please?

Hi all. This is my first post here,

I just bought a 97 4runner sr5

I have a high idle that only seems to be there after driving a bit and putting the shifter in park.

I sprayed the intake and vacuum lines to check for leaks and found none. The o2's switch as they should. and the throttle is definatly all the way closed.

The scanner reads that the throttle is opened 10.5%
I am not sure if that is correct.

It idles around 750 or so when I start it up, Drives fine, and idles around 1400 when warm after driving.

Can my IAC motor be getting gummed up? Or is that throttle position off?

Any help would really be appreciated.

Thanks

Hi, one time I had a trouble similar to this and the problem was a small amout of carbon in the IAC. Just cleaning the thing in place didn't do the trick, I had to remove it from the throttle body to fix it.

There is also a small basic idle adjustement screw that is located near the cable attachement. There is a small amount or white or yellow paint on it. This is adjusted at the factory, you might want to make sure the paint is still intact.

If you have access to a scanner you can check in the data list if IDL is on or off, these are points in the TPS that tells the ECU if idle or not.

I am pretty sure the IDL said off. I assume that would be for raising the idle when a/c is on?

I will remove the valve and clean it. Are the throttle body and IAC gaskets readily available?

Thanks

I have a 98 5 speed. Have/had a very simulair problem. When sitting at a light with the clutch in or in neutral it would idol high. I actually ran for about 6 months like that and then on day got a check engine light. Read the code and my suspictions of the idol were right....engine throttle position sensor failure.

The fact you showed 10 or so % open when not tells me this may be the problem even though you are not popping a code. The part was $60 or so dollars and easy to replace.
