High Jack Lift 48" vs 60"?

Hey, just curious if anyone has an opinion on which they like better for our T4R's.

I'm planning to mount to roof rack shortly, so interior space is not a concern.

I'm buying the 48" unless someone can convince me otherwise. Seems like a good deal:

48 is a good size thats what i have and it works perfect, but if you are lifted more than 3-4 inches 60 might work better, i only have a 3 inch lift

A 48" is pretty big. I wouldn't want to go any higher than it can take me.

The Hi-Lift can be used as a come-a-long/winch. I'll use mine that way in a pinch but I carry a come-a-long so I doubt I will need to. I also have a winch.

I've bought the harbor freight 48" jack and have been satisfied. I use the front jack points on my 4xInnovations bumper and can get the wheels off the ground with the 48" one. I'd have less room to spare if I had a body lift though. Construction looks to be good and the jack itself is simple in design so I'm not worried about complex parts requiring high quality manufacturing processes. That being said, I always brace with jackstands and other items in case it lets go.

I did order sliders, they should deliver by the end of the week. But, I haven't told anyone what I got yet. I'm keeping you all in suspense, and will update my slider thread once mounted...

Do you think 48" is too big? I focused on this size because it was middle of the road, compared to 36" and 60".

Yeah, I run the 60 and would not buy one shorter. What if you are off road and on an uneven surface? As stated the 48" already is almost too short, so if you are in a place on the trail where the Jack will be in a rut or down in a hole ect you will be running the risk of not being able to lift your rig up enough. What happens when you get stuck or hi-centered on something that Jack might not get the job done. I have had times where my 60 was almost too short...

I second the 60" jack - when jacking up my rear there is so much sag that I get up to the 40" mark real quick.

If you had the vehicle off camber / the jack any lower than the wheel, well then the 48" is pretty much useless.

60" FTW.

I had a 60" at first but the sucker was massive. Honestly, I've put my truck through some more difficult situations than a lot of people on here are willing to do (see sig) and have yet to have to use my hi-lift. I'd say in those rare occasions, 90% of the time the 48" will work just fine with our trucks (changing flat, popped bead, cv axle) and those other 10% using your hi-lift will be out of the question (needing winching, towing, pullied). With the correct driving and spotting you should rarely use it at all..

That said, the 60" wouldn't fit in the back of my 4runner so I traded a buddy for his 48". I honestly think 48" is plenty.

That is what I have, and it has been used more for holding full u haul trailers than anything off road. Since it has been abused and stored in weather outside, it doesn't work the greatest anymore, but I'm sure it would come back with some actual grease. That being said there is a big difference in quality between this and the actual hi lift brand offerings. I have thought about buying the hi-lift rebuild kit and seeing if it fit the harbor, but will still replace the HF piece with a real one before I put myself in any situation where it may be my only savior.

The 60" fits perfectly on the back of my CBI bumper. It's no heavier than a MT tire if you're concerned about weight. And if you are... time to hit the gym!

I'm pretty sure I NEED the 60" just to change my tires...

I plan on buying the 60" lift but have not done so yet. With my 3" Toytec and 1" bigger wheels my rig is hard as hell to get off flat pavement now without an improvised jack.

From a stability perspective, does anyone know if there a noticeable difference with the taller jack?
