Higher mileage

Well I bought this 4runner with a box c title which means we didn't know the actual mileage. It's I'm excellent condition and runs perfect so I took my chances and bought it and am very happy I did. I did do some searching around on different stuff and I've figured out I have about 210k on it. Is there anything I need to keep an eye on at this kind of mileage? We will be doing long multi week trips on and off road so I need it to be as reliable an dependable as possible. The owner before be bought it without knowing mileage either so he did timing belt, water pump, cvs, belts, etc.. about 2k miles ago. Also found that it had pretty much all the scheduled maint. done over the years

Anything I should be worried about or watching with over 200k?

Thanks, I'll check that out. Mainly I was trying to see if anyone thinks I'll have major reliability issues at that mileage on long trips even though it seems all the maint. was done on time.
 
You should be fine if maintenance was/is kept up (and it sounds like you are on top of it), there are several forum members who have put over 400k miles on their 4th gens without major failures. These trucks will basically go forever if treated right.
 
I don't have as many miles as you but I just took the family on a 2500 mile trip pulling ab pop-up to Corpus Christi and back. Have 162k on it now and it performed flawlessly! Keep up on the preventive maintenance and it will do well. Also it handles the 115 degree AZ heat well even when towing to cooler mountains!!!
 
Ok good to hear. I pretty much assumed that i would still be pretty good even with the higher mileage. I haven't met anyone yet who complains about their toyota being unreliable regardless of the miles.

yea one thing that pretty much fed me up with all the suburbans ive had is overheating. Ive always had problems with overheating even when i wasnt pulling anything and just climbing normal hills, it got really old always watching that temp gauge or always trying to improve the stock cooling systems. Im hoping this 4runner will do alot better.
 
This next hot summer I hear Mt Lemmon or better yet Mt Graham calling your name! I'll see you up there!!!
 
You have the v8, you have the towing package? If so, you have an additional trans cooler in combo with a rock solid engine cooling system. Seriously. I track my trucks cooling via one, so I can see my temp down to the .00 degree. It is rock solid. When it hits 190, it doesnt budge anymore up. It will fluctuate between 188-190 at the temp sensor if I coast or it is raining(helps heat transfer) but doesn't budge above 190. That tells me that the cooling system is built perfectly. Stable operating temps are key to a strong engine, good mileage and long life. Too cold is almost as bad as too hot. The engine will burn incomplete and muck stuff up.

That mine stops rising the moment the theromstat opens in just about every situation I have driven in(hot, cold, towing, 4x4ing) and stays there is exactly what you want to see.

if this is indicative of the v8s in all runners, as I suspect it is, I wouldn't worry about watching as long as your engine is operating normally.

The 4.7 V8 is probably the second best Toyota engine built. Right behind the 22r, which is the most bullet proof engine I have ever owned. Seriously. She might be weak by today's standards, but she keeps ticking.


Hated the 3.0, loved my 22re and am loving the 4.7.
 
One preventive maintenance item I make sure I keep up on is replacing the timing belt. It is due every 90K miles and is not something I will skip. When mine was done they put a label on indicating the date and mileage it was done at under the hood. Might be worth looking around for that.

Yea luckily the previous owner did the timing belt and i have the receipts for it. Ill look for a label though.

I do have the V8 with the towing package. Good to hear, im looking forward to not having to worry about it when on our trips. I dont know alot about the 4.7 v8 yet but everything ive read about it has been great so far.
