Usually months before a timing chain breaks they start to make noise..especially at startup. Did he ignore the warning signs???

No warning noises. It started up right outside our house and it always sounded fine to me right up until its demise. Sounded just the same as my v6 03 with 80k on it.

Well, this set of tires are currently at +107k.

This past winter I purchased a 04 SR5 4x4 v6 with 180K miles as a daily driver. I was putting too many miles on my Mustang and I have always wanted a t4r. I have just over 191k on it now.

A lot of people thought that I was crazy to pick up a truck with this many miles, and I always said "it's a Toyota, it'll last forever" but I secretly was nervous about buying a rig with so many miles on it. This thread has made me feel so much better about the reliability of the v6 and the 4th gen.

From the carfax and what I can tell by looking it over, it looks like the only real work done other than maintenance is a new radiator. Both front axles will need to be replaced soon (both boots are cracked and leaking) and other than some mods that I have planned, she's good to go! Drives incredible and is as solid as a tank. I love driving it so much that I'm actually thinking about selling my Mustang :

2005 SR5 with 135K. Just had to replace both front brake calipers. But a very. Low maintenance cost. And just bought a family member a 2008 Sport 4WD. It has 88K and looks like new.

after seeing the 550K post, I had to gloat a little on the 2003 Limited I just bought this week with 41K on it. Due to the age of the vehicle already, I highly doubt I would ever see 550K, but one can dream. Go Runner Go!!

2003 with 203,000 miles. Got it brand new in 2003 with 10 miles on it. I get numerous compliments on it from strangers and from the techs at the dealership saying it's the cleanest one they've seen. Only concerning issue I've had is having to replace frozen calipers (front and rear) roughly every 3-4 years.

Rear calipers too??? Our '03 with 223k miles still has original rear calipers.
