Highest Mileage 4th Gen?

200K And still just a baby

Hit 200K on my way from Salt Lake City, UT to Moab, UT earlier this month. It was my first "road trip" with Bella and she performed beautifully! Even fully loaded with all my gear, roof box and hitch mounted bike rack I was averaging 23MPG!

How much of an impact does after-market suspension, body lift, size of tires, etc. have on the life of a 4 runner? Or does it really come down to treatment of the truck and service? Thanks in advance to those who reply!

I think the life of anything mechanical comes down to how its treated and the service done on it. With regards to our Runners, most of the vehicles on this forum are lifted, have bigger tires etc. so it seems to me like even if any of that does make a difference on vehicle life, it so minimal that you'll probably never notice. Just in this thread alone you can see how many rigs have 200, 300, or even 400k+ miles on them. Take care of your truck and it will reward you with many miles of trouble free driving.

I'm 47 years old and have 34k on my 08. By ya'lls posts, it would seem that if I keep the maintenance up and paint it once, the thing will out live me! Hahaha

2004 SR5 V8 just turned 150K. As I read through several pages of this thread, it seems high mileage cars are the exception which is not surprising. And if you had a high mileage 4th gen, it's worth bragging about. But does anyone know what the average lifetime miles is? In other words, how high is too high if someone is looking to purchase a used 4th gen? Let's assume vehicle history was average.

I drove with my buddy this weekend for him to buy a v8 4x4 2004 limited with 250k miles on it. No rust. 6k out the door. $800 to replace brakes, 02 sensor and cracked radiator and its running great!

Thats a pretty good deal, don't let the mileage scare you ( or him in that case). If maintained well, it can last forever. ha.

They are great cars but do you really think any of these runners have 33 years left in them? Think of how much you'll enjoy 2050. The way medical science is headed 45 should be about middle age by then with life expectancies for the next generation human (your great grandkids) pushing 200 years.

Haha, I don't think it's because it's a Limited but I guess that could be it! I just set my cruise control at ~67MPH which put RPM right at 2K. Seemed to be pretty efficient at that speed/rpm, but it's also bone stock with highway/all season tires and a fresh oil change right before I left on that trip.

Also, the lie-o-meter is a bit off and with stock tires, reads approximately 13% higher than calculating with trip mileage and fuel amounts. I've had measurements over 2.5 mpg high, and lowest was 0.4 mpg high.

Currently at 139500. Long ways to go (I hope)!

Most important thing would be the service records it has, and rust underneath really. Carfax of course too. If these vehicles are maintained right, they will go a long long way especially in states without salty roads. If all of those things check out, 160k is still pretty young for our rigs. 2001 4Runner

Hey everyone,
2001 4runner clocking in at 225k miles. I am hoping to get a lot more out of it. It certainly needs work as the previous owner hadn't done much in terms of maintenance.

To do list:
Catalytic converters (I keep on getting a check engine light to which a mechanic has verified my 2(?) cats need replacing)
Lower ball joint replacements
Tie Rod replacements ... for starters

I'm hesitant to start any work on the car as I'm not sure how many more miles I can get out of her. My amazon cart is awaiting a click of the purchase button for all the tools I would need.
