Hill Assist Control question

OK, I'm coming up my driveway which is about a 20 degree slope. I come to a stop.

I take my foot off the brake and the 4r starts to flash the car with the wiggly lines on the dash and the chime sounds and there is a lot of clicking and activity going on in the transmission area. It is also clicking and rolling slowly backward. Is this how your HAC works?

Do I have to apply some gas pedal pressure to activate the HAC and if so what is the difference between HAC and no HAC if you are using the engine to hold you on the hill?

Anyone ever try this?

Yup that is how HAC is suppose to work. What it does is modulate the brake to prevent your vehicle from rolling back on a hill when you lift your foot off the brake and apply it to the gas pedal. I believe it only works for 5 seconds. You don't have to do anything special to activate it, the truck does it all automatically.

I've only ever had this happen once on a rainy day on a steep hill. I was stopped at a light and when I lifted my foot off the brake pedal I felt it kick in for a second. I put my foot on the gas and took off normally. I only realized what happened after the fact. Great technology seamlessly taking over...

Just think about this way. If you didn't have HAC, your 4runner would be flying down that hill in reverse pretty quickly (just think as if you're driving manual transmission and you're in neutral).

The HAC is just there to assist you so you don't have to do the two foot action w/ the brake and gas. Makes driving in those conditions easier quite frankly.
