It is pretty expensive. All you get in it is the compass/Altitude/out side temperature. The seller don't even include the sensor so all together you are looking around $400. I would put another $400 and buy a bull bar for that.
After careful thinking I settled with a rear view mirror that shows compass and the outside temperature. This mirror also has the auto dimming feature.

Definitely not worth it if you can't get it, complete with outside temp sensor, for under $200.
The field monitor unit in Subaru's are made by the same company that make's the Toyota monitors. I've heard you can order the temp sensor for cheap from a Subaru dealer, and it will work perfectly with the Surf monitors. Just in case you find one for way cheaper that doesn't include the sensor.

You can also use a mitsubishi montero temperature sensor with the subaru unit.
