there are several types of rear wings.

ones that i have seen are:
one type is the SSR-G wing which is thick and with a power rear under mirror. If you want to see what's immediately behind the vehicle when backing up, you can lower the mirror with a flick of a switch or you can choose to have the mirror in auto-mode wherein several seconds after placing the tranny in reverse, the mirror lowers automatically and moves up after you shift out of reverse. this wing is optional on the SSR-X Limited model grade.

another wing comes with LED high-mount stop lamp.

Still another type doesn't come with the 3rd brake light.

I haven't seen the switch with an option for "auto mode", any pics of this? Where are you located? What year Surf do you have? Any pics?

I'll look through my pics from when I had mine, but the AUTO was a button on the dash that automatically lowered the powered mirror in the rear wing when you put the tranny in reverse. It was quite cool.

I think so. my 97 didn't have it. My 00 did. In 99, the whole truck got a refresh (different HVAC controls and other detail changes), I think?
