HIR Lamps

Hey, does anyone know if the new(er) phillips 9012 HIR lamps have the same base configuration as the originals (toshiba and GE), and the second part of the question is will these fit in the factory headlight housing on an 07 4runner?? Also, does the wiring harness (plug) need to be changed?? I know that the 9011s do fit if you modify the tab but my understanding was that the 9011 are not 'true HIR'.

Any thoughts or comments would be appreciated

Thanks
Steve

The Philips 9011's don't use the same configuration as the Toshiba "true" HIRs, but from the specs I've seen, they actually put out more light. 9011's will fit in the high beams, and for a good low beam upgrade you can use H9's on '06-'09 headlights (both require minor trimming of the bulb).

I upgraded my low beams to Philips H9's (~$8.00ea on Amazon) and the difference is amazing, they put out nearly twice the light as the stock H11 bulbs but are only 15 watts hotter. I was considering going to HIDs before, but the H9s put out more than enough light for me.

I also replaced my high beams with 9011's (~$19.00ea on Amazon). They definitely put out more light than the stock bulbs, but it isn't as dramatic as the low beam upgrade.

Don't worry about the Philips 9011s not being a true HIR bulb, the fact of the matter is, it still meets all the DOT/ECE requirements to qualify as a suitable 9011 replacement bulb so it is just as bright as the previous GE/Toshiba HIR bulbs...whatever magic Philips did to make it happen without implementing the HIR technology apparent worked out great, lol. I have them and it is a HUGE difference over the 9005s, you will not be disappointed.

Here is a write up I did for the 5th gen guys, but it should be pretty much the same exact thing for you as well I think :)

Thanks for the comments and info. I decided to go with the 9011s and H9s. I'll try to do some before and after pics and post next week.

I installed a set of these Philips HIRs on my 4th Gen... They are brighter than stock...especially the highs. But not as bright as some people have been saying. They were pretty easy to modify to fit in the housing. Just a couple seconds with the ole dremmy and they are good to go. Overall good for the price.

And better yet than the Dremel, use some Toe-Nail clippers for the contoured base...literally takes under 5 minutes!
