Hiss sound when shifting under load

Just noticed an odd sound, sounds like fluid going through a hose at a high rate of speed when my transmission shifts quickly- i.e. When near wide open throttle. Sound only happens between gears. Transmission shifts smoothly.

I just had my trans fluid changed, I may have had this noise previously- I've only had the truck for a few weeks.

Anyone else heard this noise?

Truck is a '05 V8 AWD.

Its the VVT-I of the engine that kicks in around 4200, mine makes the same exact noise.
 
I don't think it's the vvti- the sound occurs when the trans shifts, regardless of rpm. It's just more noticable when rpms are higher, because the trans shifts faster and harder...

Other ideas?
 
Sounds like an improperly serviced, underfilled transmission. Had the same problem when serviced by a Toyota dealer in southern Utah a couple of years ago. They told me the noise, like air in a hydraulic line, was normal. Took it back to the dealer I bought it from and was told it was not filled properly. Have your dealer recheck it.
 
Yes, low on fluid as well as incorrect fluid added. Toyota five speed automatic transmissions require a certain service procedure be followed as well as the use of World Standard fluid. That procedure requires a drain, refill, bring up to operating temperature, cycle the transmission, then recheck and top off the trans fluid level. Not likely the correct fluid level will be obtained with just a drain and refill alone.
 
My 05' V8 does it too, but sometimes it's accompanied by a faint "chirp" noise. Given the fact that our transmissions are sealed, and have WS lifetime fluids in them, if you're not in the 70k+ mileage range, then I doubt it's your fluid. And, the only way you'd be low on fluid, is if the previous owner drained the fluid himself and didn't replinish it correctly. Just take a look at the drain plug on the pan for any signs of moisture. Changing the transmission fluid in our transmissions is a bit more complicated than the ole' fashioned way. We don't have a dip stick.

Honestly, you're asking a 4.7 V8 with 270 hp and over 300lb's of torque to shift gears at redline, on an awd setup in a pretty heavy truck. I wouldn't be worried about it. Now, if you're getting noises under normal driving conditions, then I'd probably head for the service center.
 
I bought the truck a few weeks ago with 65k on it, so I had the fluid changed. I honestly didn't notice the sound before the fluid change, so I'm a bit paranoid. I'm swinging my my mechanic today to recheck the fluid level. I will also verify which fluid was used (it was Toyota fluid).
 
Well, the fluid is OK, my mechanic is going to check his records to ensure that Toyota sold him the correct fluid. Pretty sure they did as he told them the truck is a 05 V8 AWD.

I have a high pitched whirring noise under similar conditions. let me clarify:

-agressive throttle (WOT or near WOT)
-1st to 2nd gear shift it makes the noise like a high pitched "whirrrr"
-it's not loud enough to be heard over music or wind noise with windows down so must have windows closed and no music at all
-under normal driving conditions, no noise

is this normal?

Since posting about my noise a few years ago- I've had the trans fluid changed twice, and added about 80k miles. I still get the same noise, so I've stopped worrying about it.
