Hmm. What Would YOU Do?

1.) I just picked up a higher mileage black 1998 SR5 4x4 and really like it(except the stupid bling bling badges), but I want to color match the bumpers, grille and add the sport hood. I would really love to have the e-locker also. Also, in the back of my mind I wish I had waited for a Millennium Silver.

2.) My truck is kinda pointless to have now (89' Hilux on 37s) since I don't go serious 4wheeling anymore and really like driving the 4Runner more.

:redbrick:So, my question is...

Would it be worth building my '98 4Runner into a "Highlander" and keeping my truck too...or sell both the 4Runner and the truck and buying a lower mileage Highlander(Millennium Silver) with everything I want?

What would YOU do?

Here are pictures of both...

I would probably sell the '89 and use that money on the '98. Install a sport hood, paint everything to match, and pick up a aftermarket locker like ARB or something. That way you can still have your Runner to drive, but fall in love with it again with the work you put into it.

Sweet pickup!

When you sell the pickup, about 4 months later you will regret it. ( ask me how I know... )

Keep both & do the rest of the above mentioned mods to the 4Runner.

i say sell the newly acquired '98 and save up for the newer, more wanted 00+ 4runner in millennium silver. then start the mods after you grab the millennium silver 4runner.

sell both and buy a nice low mileage rig that you have always wanted, why pay insurance and maintenance on 2 trucks your kind of over when you can consolidate and have the rig you've always wanted with maybe enough cash left over to really make it sweet?

i mean don't just love the smell of a fresh new truck to start modding? lol

The highlander edition only came in black and jade mica green. Best bet is just sell the truck and build the 4runner. But i would sell em both and find a highlander.

I would set the Hilux back to stock ride height with stock tire size, sell those tires and suspesnion, and reinvest the money into a Scooped hood and paint the bumpers for the 4runner, a set of 5 star or Tundra 5 star rims for the 4runner and a nice AT tire set for the 4runner with a 99 highlander suspension set.

Thanks for the replies!

I thought in 2000 the highlander also came in Millennium Silver?

2000 did, it was called the Sport that year, although some think that a few early 00's came badged as the highlander.

99 highlander had the tall coils though.

You are right, I was wrong. Did a little Google magic and came up with this.

Here is a quote from the following webpage:
In 2000 the 4Runner Highlander was additionaly offered in Millenium Silver.

Toyota 4Runner Highlander Information

Just FYI, I searched for MONTHS to find the perfect highlander (had to be a 2000, elocker, 3.4 v6, 5-speed, jade green, <150k) I eventually just settled for my 2002 sport, this was 2 1/2 years ago.. Good luck finding one now.

yup my last 4runner was a 2000 millennium silver highlander edition, i didn't know it was only offered in 3 colors though

Yep! You go ahead and sell that truck. You'll regret it in less than two weeks! I don't know anyone that has had a nice one that hasn't regreted selling them. Ditch that 4 runner and get the one you want. Even if you did build it up it still isn't the one you want! Oh, if you really do want to sell the truck let me know would you. I really miss the one I had.

i would ditch that older truck. You have a newer 4runner that will drive much better, and probably wheel about the same as that truck, given you had a rear locker and small lift.

I always say NEVER BUY A VEHICLE BASED ON COLOR. but i dont really care about that stuff.

"a black 1998 SR5 4x4 and really like it(except the stupid bling bling badges)"

When I got the same 4Runner as yours, I didn't even drive it until I replaced the gold emblems with chrome.

I say sell both and get the one you really have your heart and mind set on.

Of course you're going to have a little regret. I just sold my '01 Tacoma. Loved that rig. I have a little regret for all of the vehicles that I've really liked and sold or lost over the years. But having the ride that I really want makes that regret just a small spec on my mind. Especially when I'm driving in my new Runner.

That truck is a beast! I couldn't even contemplate selling that beauty...

I say, if you don't like the 4Runner, make it to your liking (modding is fun!) or sell it and swap it for the one you want. Most of our 4Runner's started out looking very stock and wimpy, anyway. If you sell and buy another, don't waste your time with anything less than a 99 IMO, nicer mid gen upgrades, better looking truck I think.

That truck is awesome though, don't sell it, please... and if you do, send me a message first :P

Also... whats with all these 4Runner's coming with these Explorer-esque wheels?!
