Ho cool is your AC

It has been super hot and humid here in Maine for the past few weeks and I love this weather. Usually I just roll down the windows because I prefer that but with all the humidity Ive been using the AC. I can run my 4R AC on high and never get too cold, this morning I had to take my wifes car and her Honda AC is ice cold, I had to turn it down to low and add some warm to temper it. Anyone else find there 4R Ac to be cool but not super cold? Now that I think back I want to say my pathfinder was cooler than the 4R because I never ran it on high either....

Same here. It seems fine until I compare it to the GFs '99 Avalon. That A/C is amazing.

It's been very hot here in NY lately too. Today is supposed to be mid-90's with a high heat index. I've never found the A/C on my '04 4Runner to be lacking. If anything, I can't leave it on maximum for very long without raising the temperature...it gets too cold. You should definitely have your A/C system check out if it's not blowing really cold.

While driving i have to turn the vents shut or else my arms start to feel pain from the cold air hitting them.

Its supposed to be hot as hell this week in massachusetts, so here's to a week of sweatin' like a fat man running uphill chasing a plate of bacon!

Ambient temp above 75F, vent temp should be at least 30F colder (ref: DC-System-Performance---Ideal-Vent-Temperature). For comparison my girlfriend's 98 Rav4 gave 43F colder vent temp than the 95F ambient air here in Florida. If your 4Runner is not performing to this standard then you should have the a/c serviced.

sorry, its ok when set to LO, but i too feel the 4runners ac is not as cold as some other vec.s ive been in & owned in the past.

I live in houston and right no the temperature is averaging around 105-108 everyday with high humidity as well. The 4runner A/C keeps it nice and cool though, if I keep it on high to long I think it might even start spitting ice cubes at me lol

One thing to check is the condenser...that radiator looking thing...make sure the fins are nice and straight and free of bug guts...

I'm in MS and we've had temps in the upper 90's/low100's for the past 6 weeks. 90 has been a cool spell. The AC in my '08 tends to take awhile to make up ground on the heat inside the passenger area but it usually keeps it more than cool. But a lot has to do if you're sitting in traffic vs. running a steady highway speed. At steady highway, I've had to kick the temperature up to 78 or or 79 to keep from getting frostbite, even on 90+ degree days. In traffic at an idle, the compressor can't work at rated capacity but mine still seems to maintain a comfortable temperature.

If yours isn't up to par, have it checked.

Living here in Eastern Pennsylvania actual temps can get to the 90s-100 at times.
I have found that the best thing to do when getting into a vehicle that has been closed up and in the sun is to open it up and let the super heated interior air out or drive a block or two with the windows down. Out of curiosity I have taken temp measurements and found that this super heated air as as I call it to range from 20-40 degrees Fahrenheit above the air temperature outside the vehicle.

By letting that super heated air out I have found it helps the AC cool the interior much faster. Iam guessing that the people I work with think I am NUTS when they see me in the parking out after with the doors open on my daily driver (it does not have electric windows) but it works. FYI, the last time I measured the temp at the vent in this vehicle it was blowing right around 36 degrees (it runs 134a). One of these days I will have to measure the temp at the vent in the 4Runner.

It's been over 100 degrees here in north texas pretty much everyday here for the past month. If the 4runner was sitting outside and i get in it takes forever for the AC to cool down the interior. When the 4runner is in the garage and i get in the AC cools but the air just doesn't seem as cold as i remember. Also when driving if i don't press the "recycle air" button the AC is definitely warmer.

It's an inconvenience especially when you look at the weather and see 106 degrees as the high. The AC almost always has to be on LO setting for it to cool properly. Anybody know what's wrong? Is that just the way it is? Or does it need freon or something?

The AC in my 2007 will blow you away. Always cools quick and gets really cold.

Mine as always done the job, but I've never been truly impressed by it. Seems like even the fan doesn't run as fast when it's hot out. Recently it's started to blow only hot air out of the driver’s side vents, while the passenger side is nice and cold. Does that for about 30 mins and finally evens out. No fun when you live in TX, and it's over 100 deg every day. I've even tried to close the passenger vent to force all of the air to the driver side, but that does no good....ugh.

I live in Arizona where it's constantly 115 plus in the LONG summer! My AC seems to be adequate.

What I don't like about my AC is the blower settings - 2 seems like SO mild and so does 3. When you get to 4, it really blows hard. There doesn't seem to be a happy medium. I don't know whether it's just mind or all the 4runners are like this - I suspect the latter. I'd prefer the old fashioned slider or knob that has a lot more increments than just the 4 preset blower settings.

With recent 110 degree days and 50+ percent humidity mine has been great. My 3rd gen AC was ice cold too. Toyota's ACs have always impressed me.

Thats it, that best describes it! I remember my 94 civic used to fog up the windshield on the outside where the humididty would condense it got so cold and it did at times frost up the coil in the heater box and blow fog out the interior vents......

My 2003 was not blowing cool air at all. I had it serviced and now it blows really cold air set only at 68 degrees. Sounds like yours needs to be serviced.
