Hole in BLOCK!!! Help please w/ rebuild!!!!

Ok.. I heard a what i thought was a rod knock coming home from work... Well, before i got home, rod snapped in half, went through block, and the splattered oil caught my engine bay on fire!!! DOH!

Well... I have a 85 4runner, efi.

I want find a block, and build it. I will build it myself, and I am capable of doing so. I just need help with WHAT PARTS and WHERE TO BUY THEM. This is my work truck, and is also used for wheeling on the weekend, not to mention LONG LONG(3 thousand miles) road trips.

So... does anyone recomend a place that sells decent TOYOTA engine parts, and what brands do you recomend? I have 1000 bucks to spend on parts, and labor is free. I'm tempted to just do a stock rebuild, but i REALLY want more power....

So, with reliability first priority, 1000 bucks second priority, and power third priority.....WHAT PARTS DO YOU RECOMEND??!?!

Thanks again...... ANY advice on where to buy parts, and what to buy is MUCH appriciated.

i did... But what parts would you guys recomend for an EXTREMELY reliable motor, with more power?

I know "built" motors aren't the most reliable(i mean 3k. mile trips into mexico reliable, where our lives could depend on the truck). But i would love more power...

SO.....What parts, brands, size-overs would you recomend? i have 1000 bucks for JUST parts....

any info is appriciated... I know i sound like a total tool, but i'm just not very familiar with the 22r motors.... thanks a bunch for ANY help.

I meant, tell him what you want to do,, and he can prolly give you good suggestions. He's a good guy to deal with. Very knowledgeable.

He specializes in 22r and 22 re engines.

I'll second the engnbldr recommendation. He has quite a good reputation for his engine kits.

I just used one of his timing kits with the steel backed drivers side rail and was pleased with the result.

However, if you get one get it off ebay. He sells the same stuff there for a nice markdown over his website. As a matter of fact, there is one of his kits there right now he's selling for benefit for some little girl... Right now it's just over $100.

By the way, if my life depended on an engine, as yours does on your 3k Mexico trips, I'd buy a new truck. No rebuild is going to be very reliable after about 10k.
