Holes Left By Running Boards

Does anybody do anything to the holes left by the running boards? I sold mine so there are no bolts in the holes anymore. Are they rust protected inside? Or should I put a dab of caulk in each one to protect it?

I put a dab of Hylomar (any RTV would be fine) on the bolts and put them back in place. Sorry I don't remember what size the bolts are, but imho this is useful if you ever want to re-use those holes for something else.

I put the bolts back in. I dont remember the thread pitch but when I removed my xreas those bolts were the same size and used some of those to plug the holes.

I still have some bolts that are the same thread pitch, so I may go to Lowes and grab the shortest bolt that will fill the hole.

Just not sure if that's actually needed or not. I've got a big tube of black RTV, so I've also considered just putting a glob of that in each.

I just put the bolts back in mine as well. I wanted to keep them sealed and if I wanted to use them again they are ready to go and threads are clean.

I put a dab of black rtv in/around the hole and reinstalled the bolts to make sure they are sealed.

I took the lights out of the Limited running boards (with the pre-attached wiring), drilled a hole in them, and bolted them back up where the running boards were. That way I still get some ground lighting when I lock/unlock/open doors.

Note: I replaced the original bulb with LED to get a brighter effect.

(I also replaced the original bolts back in the bolt holes that weren't being used by this make-shift lighting.)
