I've been waiting for them to release a supercharger for the X-runner. It should fit with little to no modification on the V6...
 
ProChargers are the BEST supercharger out! They spend allot on R&D, are intercooled.....I love them! I need to see if they make one for my 4Runner!
 
TRD uses an Eaton roots type supercharger. The procharger unit is easier to intercool as it does not sit on the engine, but like an accesory. Its closer to a turbo set up in the placement of it. If it wasnt so expensive, I'd use it. If you check ebay, Eric Steinbach is selling his 4runner, and it uses a procharger.
 
The problem I see is that the TRD is better because it is CARB legal. But it is gone and I bet we wont get them back for the 235hp 4.7 V8. The ProCharger is way better in many ways but they need to make a kit that is CARB legal for us to make it a viable option. So I think we 235hp guys are basically screwed all the way around, which sucks.
 
carb legal, what does that really mean I know it's important especially since I live in smog check state:(

back to the TRD verse this SOS/ProCharger, the TRD was pulled for unknown reasons, I would like to know why, I don't want the rear end or my engine blowing up which may or maynot be true, then again it was also ECU problems

I know the 350Z and G35c have prochargers and they have been great
 
CARB is California Air Resources Board, the folks that must certify kits in California. If something is CARB Certified then other states almost always just accept it.

As for loosing your engine, no worries. ProCharger kits are engineered very well when ATI ProCharger does them. This other shop I am not so sure about. The engine I know is BULLET PROOF! The ProCharger kit would make more power more safely than the TRD kit because of the intercooler. Also the driveline is fine since theya re automatics. They were built to handle the high torque. What really kills parts is hard launches seen in stick shirt vehicles. Auto’s can handle allot more as long and the tranny is cooled properly, which ours is.

I am 99% sure the TRD was pulled because the 2005 4Runners were coming out and if you could order a 2004 with a TRD Supercharger at 350HP+ and the 2005 came out VVTi at 275HP the market department would view that as a downgrade. This would also be true for the new Tundra’s with the more powerful engines. Toyota marketing would also see this take thunder away from the Tacoma Supercharged truck that is now out because people would say “you should put the supercharged V8 in there”. Since TRD would have to wait to get production VVTi 4.7's to test on the sales of 2005 4Runner would lag, in the marketing department’s eyes. So they canned it before it really got going. Japanese auto manufacturers are really dumb like that, they just do not understand the US market, Toyota especially.
 
thanks for clearing that up, and when will Toyota realize a few SC for some customers will not upset car sales
