So I have been thinking about ways to do this for quite some time. Today I had enough coffee to actually get it done. With the help of some rustoleum primer and paint along with some rubber under coating it's done. Oh yeah, my v-bits from harbor freight came in super handy when making the air holes. Took better part of the day to get all the paint to set up then it was just on to mounting and staring at it.
That looks good. I've been thinking about doing something similar. Does it cover the open area between the bumper and front skid plate? Any pics of it installed? What thickness/material did you use?

i don't have any ramps so this is as good of a pic i can get of it installed. i need to find a rock or curb to get up on. yes, it does cover the open area between the bumper and front skid plate. side to side is about the width of where you would mount one of those cheesy bull bars.
as far as thicknes goes..it is about as thick as a quarter or nickle. didn't want to go to thick on this one since it's the 1st one i have done.
over all i am happy with it and it gave me something to do today while waiting on supercross to come on.
the next one will be thicker and i will start at the trans and go forward.
I'm gonna say that 1-2mm would be plenty thick for this area since there is not alot of bashing or crashing but more of a front engine radiator protection.
That's exactly what I need. Thanks for the extra pics and motivation. We don't have a lot rocks here; it's sand, water and mud. Many of the trails have small branches that could poke up through that open area and ruin your day. I may try this soon.

I cut the steel myself. just bought a sheet a while back, took some measurements and started cutting. did the holes myself as well as everything else.
i did have to bend the tabs on the factory skid to get this to slide in correctly but it was nothing more than moving a piece of steel about 1/8" long from a 90* to a 180* setting.
maybe they thought since there are no moving parts that there was no need for any sort of protection. after all, we all have money laying around for a new radiator or what ever that other thing is.
i will do a write up this weekend. work and kids have taken up most of my time this week.
In the mean time, I do plan on making some of these but not sure how many at this point. need to get ahold of my steel guy and nest these out on a sheet of metal 1st.
