Homelink Gate Function

Hi all,
My gate opener via Homelink quit working. Garage still works. Reprogrammed Homelink and still inop. Tried to program third (unused button) and still no luck. The device to program works gate just fine as well as our other Toyotas.
I need a geeky answer to a simple problem.

at the gate opener, go to the controller onboard, there should be a button to add remotes, press it once and then at the truck you press and hold what ever button you want, and it should work.
