Homelink install in 2000-2001+ 4Runner

Calling any Toyota tech's out there.....

I ordered a homelink unit for a customer, and there are no instructions with the unit. We are going to be installing this in a current 4Runner visor.

The kit comes with a homelink housing and a module that gets mounted INSIDE the visor. I checked all over the net, callled the company that makes it "Johnson controls" and it's usually only factory installed.

I can't get any info at all on installing this in a visor.

Any help would be greatly appreicated.

This unit was a feature on 2001 limiteds.

I have this feature on my '01 Limited and I love it! If you can figure out how to get it installed, I'll bet you will be able to sell a bunch of these suckers.

Yes, that is the problem.

It came with all the programming info, etc. Just nothing on install. This is how they come, with no install instructions, believe it or not.

I called the homelink already, and no help at all. They kept telling me to call a Toyota dealer as they should have install info for dealer installed units. I don't know.

Here is what it comes with.

The black module goes in the visor somehow. Remember, this is for a 2000 4Runner with no existing homelink.

Hey Jason,

I would be concerned with the thickness of the visors. I know that the visors in my 2001 are about twice as thick as those in my '97. I'm not sure how thick the ones are in the 2000 that you are dealing with. Wonder if you could find some instructions on the install somewhere online... I've seen installation instructions fro the Gentex autodimming mirrors and such so it seems like there should be something similar for the homelink visor install.

Another thought is, would it be possible to mount it in the headliner or some other area of the vehicle while keeping the install clean?

I would imagine that you would have to open up the visor to install it inside. Maybe you could mount it somewhere else besides the visor?

The wiring is a simple two-wire hook-up. 12v+ and ground. Should be a snap.
