Homemade plate bumper build thread

I just bent the pipe over the weekend and ordered turn signals, and mounts for some D-Rings, gonna weld some supports inside it and hopefully get it painted soon! :guitar3:

I will get picture of it on my runner tomorrow or Saturday

Here is a picture of the bumper on my runner as it is now (sorry for poor quality) I'm going to paint it black with a bed liner spray and mount red recovery d-rings about where those vertical weld heat marks are, that is where the mounts that go directly to the frame are so it will be strongest there. I am also planning to paint the car the magnetic gray color of the new runners

Today I added some more supports to the inside of it, those little pieces by the top, but behind that square pipe, is to give the bent bar across the top some extra support for it I hit anything. The square pipe (cut diagonally) across the top on the inside is to keep the top plate flat and un-warped so it looks nice and sits flush with the bottom of my grill. In the future I will weld plates in-between the vertical square pipe and the front for even more support. I just received these D-ring shackle mounts from Barnes 4WD (good price & fast shipping) and some normal 6" amber led turn signals from amazon.com

Yea, I am planning on buying some gas later so the welds are cleaner, its just easier to set up with the fluxcore

Thanks! I ordered some textured bed liner paint and that should be here tomorrow so that i can paint it!!! I'm almost finished

Not to be a Debbie downer or anything but I'm not sure that will sustain a impact you have no horizontal brace. You should do a horizontal brace that goes the length of your bumper.

Nice work.

When the stock bumper rusted out on my 1985 I purchased a aftermarket diamond plate step bumper for a ranger, cut off the mount brackets and welded on new fabricated brackets.

The bumper was stronger and more solid than the OEM and showed very little signs of rust after 15 years.

I got a 4'x6' pice of 12 guage steel and a 2'x2' piece of 1/4" and that was about $124 from Hinton Steel Co., (I used less than half) and I just got some cheap led turn signals from here:
