Honest Opinions about this luggage Rack MOD

I don't think it looks very aesthetically pleasing to say the least. You can usually find a pretty cheap rack on craigslist online (~$100)...and perhaps sell that metal and contribute it to the rack cause?

in regards to some comments above, I think a rack can be very useful and purty lookin' and can also be very damaging and harmful to fuel economy. I personally bought mine a couple of years ago for camping purposes and it was very useful.

Since I liked the look of it, I decided to keep it on. Since I have a 4cylinder, my gas mileage was fairly adequate and I didn't mind the loss in mpg. However, since I added more stuff to my 4runner (minor lift, added duratracs, etc.), I decided to take the rack off to improve some mpgs.

Regardless, when I need it, the rack goes on the truck and looks amazing. anddddd actually, although some of you might make fun of me for this, when my family went on a huge road trip (houston to denver to breckenridge to vegas to LA to San Diego to Las Cruces and back to houston), I put my roof rack on a rent sequoia! Although it looked super small and awkward, it allowed a comfortable more roomy interior (7 people total inside). Butttt as they say...to each his own

i work around those containers often and have thought the same thing(roof rack) cut it down as low profile as you can,prime and paint and i think it will work and look just find. i built my on out of 1x1 sqaure tubing. A rack is a rack, but i like the custom look and its much cheaper. good luck
