Hood ditch light brackets

So there's apparently very few options that specifically list 3rd gens and most of them are insanely pricey for a hunk of metal with a few bends, a few holes and some powder coat. There are however some options for 1st gen Tacos out there that are much more reasonable. Are the hood mounts the same between our trucks or is there a difference?

I have no association whatsoever with this company or any company for that matter, it's just the first link that popped up. But looking at this would lead me to believe that the mounts should be compatible between the 3rd gen 4Runner and 1st gen Tacos.

Hey, So hear me out on this one because I've thought about the same thing.

A qualification for this depends on how much you care about drilling into the body panels. When I was doing custom roof-rack installs we used rivnuts to attach the racks to the tops of cars, trucks, and canopies. The hole gets sealed with E6000 to keep it from rusting and leaking. Just a thought!

If I can just use a bolt on application though, that's so much easier and then I don't have to go out and buy sealant and a riveter and wonder if I did that job right the first time I've ever done it. At that point it probably makes more sense to get the more expensive bolt on ones if they are in fact not compatible.

That's true, it is easier and you don't need a riveter and sealant. I was actually thinking of doing a fender mounted ditch light instead of hood-hinge mount myself. This way if you have the hood open the lights are still pointed in the ditch (or campsite).

The one's I've been looking at mount on the fender part of the hinge actually, not the hood part.

I ran some hood mounted ditch lights on my Tacoma for a year or so before I threw them in the trash and went with SRQ Ditch Light mounts. The hood mounted ones wobbled around, were in my field of view at all times, and were actually more difficult to install then the SRQ ones. If you don't want to drill holes in your cab then the hood mounted ones work, but I'd recommend the other ones any day.

My ditch lights are already hood mounted. It's just one of those cheap clamp mounts though that have a bunch of grub screws. So I'm already used to them being in the field of view and have no issues with that. The other problem is my passenger ditch light cord keeps getting under the mount and pinched in there and I'm worried it's going to eventually break the wire in there. That and the grub screws back themselves out of the course of a few months I found out.
