One thing is that rod never fails. If you have ever owned a vehicle with worn out hood shocks you will be one of the many driving around with some ghetto device in your trunk to hold the hood open; broom stick, 2x4, prosthetic leg etc.

2 x 4 holding up the mini van hatchback
yeah I can picture the visual now....you see them all the time-folks to cheap to spend a few dollars to fix a strut-so they carry a 2x4-(never cut to the right size it seems) to hold up the back minivan door or the hatchback on a compact.
Actually the reason I want the hood lift system is I bumped my prop rod when changing my oil about 2 years back on my '95 4Runner (yeah 2nd generation I know) and had the hood slam down on my back and shoulders. It really only takes once for that to happen to become pissed off at your vehicle-all for an accident not of its doing. I have been thinking of a hood lift system since then and was finally able to coordinate such a system with Redline Tuning-and mine is in transit now.
Can't wait to install it. But I get your point that struts do fail from time to time.

That a great looking mod and seem s to priced good too. I have a maxima and umm yeah I have a 2x4 in the trunk and it is too long so the hood sits almost straight up lol. But hey those things cost as much as struts for the suspension! They are close to $60 something bucks before shipping.

The 3rd generation fit (1996-2002 model years) is a confirmed fit, and Redline Tuning of Dexter MI is now hoping the same kit will fit the Generation 1 and 2 4Runners.
Please private message/email me if you are in or near Dexter Michigan and would like this kit installed free on your 84-89 or 90-95 4Runner. I was able to hook up a 3rd generation Michigan owner a few weeks back to get this kit out to market.
