Hood needs to be repainted, thinking about doing it myself...

So, the paint on the hood of my '99 4Runner is coming off. The truck is 15 years old and I'm actually amazed that it's lasted that long.

I'm thinking about going to one of those Sherwin-Williams Automotive paint places and buying the paint to spray the hood myself. I'm certain that the most time consuming thing would be the prep work and sanding to get to that point.

Anyone else done it themselves with success?

You can buy color matched paint for your car, a bit more expensive than just getting at a sherwin williams or autozone, but probably as close to OEM look you can get on the market

Dude give it a whirl. I actually painted a door on my acura cl with 2k spray paint... I did all the prime and paint all out of spray cans. My buddy runs a body shop and said there was no way it was spray paint. I couldn't tell it was either when I was done after a color sand and buff. And I didn't have to buy any spray equipment either. On a flat surface like that I would build a tent out of plastic over the hood with an exhaust fan to keep dust and crap down. Just my 2 cents.
