Hood Scoop

My runner has a hood scoop, I was wondering if there is any modification that can be done to convert it into a functional scoop? I'm thinking about fabing something to direct conect it to the air box, sorta like ram air. Anyway, if you've seen anything or have any thoughts please let me know.

Cheers,

Doesn't work. Many threads on this here and other sites. It's a waste of time and effort. Not to mention, you may dirty up your engine compartment unnecessarily.

It'll work if your goal is to keep your engine nice and dusty plus the water that will get in will make it even messier.

The scoop is just an awesome piece of factory "rice" and it should just stay that way. I love mine and it and the rear locker was the reasons I switched from my '97 to the '99.

I think that having a non-functional hood scoop is like putting a 4x4 sticker on a 2wd truck. Or even worse, having a 4x4 truck with mud tires and a winch that never leaves the road. Kinda like sticking a sock down the front of your pants to make it look like you have a big package. But, to each his own.

If you open your passenger door and use a flashlight, you can see your air intake in the fender well through the gap in the door jamb. It's a great spot for cooler air. If that's not good enough for ya, you might want to look into getting a snorkel.

That's why I called the scoop "rice" but since it was a real factory feature on the sport models it works for looks very nicely and it enhances performance the same as 20"+ wheels do.

using a ram air scoop to the stock box location wouldnt work but fabbing up another pipe with a flat air filter sitting right behind the scoop however could.. but i dont give a #### to even bother because my 4runner wasnt made for outstanding performance..

thats where my bimmer comes in hand.
