Hood Scoop

for those of you that have the hood scoop on ur t4r... i think its just the 99-02's? well anyways i do know that that area is closed and theres away to take out that blockage... my question is? has anyone taken that out for more air to flow through it? and if so... is it better? i know that it will get a lot dirtier under the hood but will it be any faster? will in increase the air flow for those who have cold air intakes?

Well the scoop sits in the middle of the hood, the intake is in the corner. If you just opened up under the schoop no cold air would get to the intake, if you ran tubing from the scoop to the intake any benefit would be negated by the heat generated by the motor. The cold air would travel directly over the hot motor. I imagine the oft discussed deckplate mod would garner you more ponies.

Waste of time and effort to make the scoop funtional and has been done with proof that all it does is let the elements in your engine bay which results in a dirtier engine and dirty engines run hotter so what's the point?

You want real dyno results just do the deckplate mod for $15 and add a drop-in resusueable filter and you get 7-8whp. Is it noticeable? Not really but it's so cheap you might as well do it and it'll impress your buddies..........oh yeah, the intake will get noisier at WOT but it's not too bad.

the hood scoop is open air flow.. only way its gonna be functional is through a top mount intercooler going with a turbo setup.

inless you know what you are doing. dont bother

I always wondered about that scoop.
A friend has a WRX STi and the hood scoop is fully functional, so I thought Toyotas was as well.

But now that I know it's not, I don't really mind not having it.

Yeah, I always try to save the non-functional stuff for last myself. But every time I see a hood scoop on a 4Runner, it looks so aggressive.

Ive got the hood scoop, and I took a dremel tool to it about 3 years ago, cutting the "cup" out, allowing more air flow to the engine bay, and Icant tell any difference in anything to include the temp.
has anyone taken that out for more air to flow through it?
yeppers 3 years ago.

and if so... is it better?
havent noticed any difference.

i know that it will get a lot dirtier under the hood but will it be any faster?
well it really doesnt get that much dirtier, unles your wheeling in a dusty place. and do you mean is the vehicle faster ?? no its not.

will in increase the air flow for those who have cold air intakes?
that Im not sure, Ive got the deckplate mod. but I dont think it would help enough to notice..

my end thought, after doing this about 3 years ago,,,,,, it doesnt produce any more power, if so, its so small you wont notice. It wont hurt the motor in anyway. would I do it again ? only if I was really bord and had nothing else to do.
