I partially agree but my hoods clear coat is failing and it looks pretty bad, so instead of getting my old hoof repainted i figured id get a scooped hood since i like that look better. I wouldnt have done it if my hood was in perfectly good shape.

worthless?? it's not worthless. What is the price of having your vehicle look the way you want? MOST of what we do is for looks (unless of course you have a trail rig) :boxer:

I actually traded my '97 just one year later to upgrade to a '99 Highlander like I wanted in the first place plus it had a locker,sunroof and all the other mid gen upgrades.

I am pretty sure there are some functional sport hoods for the turbo diesel models. Never seen one, heard about it.

For those that don't think the scoop would be worth opening up I invite you to do some research on the JZA80 Supra that was sold in Europe. Where the US and Japanese market cars had a small metal scoop on top of the engine to snag air as it passed through the front hood to bumper gap, the Euro cars actually got a full on scoop (very similar in size to the 4Runners) to direct airflow to the middle cylinders that tend to run a bit warm with the factory twin turbo's installed.

If you've got a certi-fit nearby I'd go there and get a hood from them. They run like $89.50. You'll have to buy the internals to the scoop after purchasing the hood and this is the best place I've found to get 'em:

Update!!!

But it lacks the insert pieces for the insert.

Meaning the mesh piece and piece that holds that.

I'm gonna order those now. Some may not want those pieces. I am gonna just paint them black and put them in when I get my hood back from paint.

I just bought a 2000 imperial jade mica sport hood from a junkyard, perfect condition just needs to be color matched to my runner. I paid $175 for everything, all inserts, hardware, padding, wiper fluid hoses and its OEM. Did I do alright or did I over pay?

Seems to be the going rate for a hood with scoop. You probably came out slightly better than most.

You came out way ahead if your truck is Evergreen.

Evergreen is only 96-98, they had no sport hoods those years.

He still came out ahead of the game. I priced the hood for $100 (aftermarket )...shipping was $95...actual scoop is $100+...then all needs paint. Heck, anyway you look at it he saved at lease $100...and he has an OEM hood instead of an "insurance grade" hood...what ever that means?

Wish I could score one like that...
