Has anyone done a flat black hood wrap
on a 5th gen? Looking to do a 3M wrap
or possibly plasti dipping the hood. Pictures and input appreciated!

I did mine as well. 3M matte vinyl and plastidipped the scoop insert.

How was does the 3M hold up compared to the dip?

My guess is that the 3M vinyl will hold up better than the dip but who knows. Time will tell.

Dipped my FJ hood, held up ok. Removed it after a year because it fades unevenly. Redid it with 3M vinyl. Once you see the vinyl, it isn't worth it to dip!

I was originally going to wrap the hood with 3M. I saw the PlastiDip videos and considered this to be cheaper and easier to put on and take off. I plan on doing my white TRDP with a plasti dip hood.

Hi there! I am a vinyl installer from Denver and can say from first hand experience that plasti dip works great for small pieces like badges/emblems, but on large pieces like wheels or hoods, it can chip and crack and the lifespan is not very long. A well installed piece of vinyl will look like paint, and last years longer than dip. 3M and Avery Dennison are both excellent choices when choosing film and both should carry warranties. Worth the extra money when it comes to keeping the Runner looking good!

I recently went the dip route (PDS Black Satin) for a couple of reasons. A) I have a buddy who is a pro with the paint gun, B) I totally plan on my hood/roof being a revolving pallet of sorts as I experiment with other tints, pearls and flakes in the near future, and C) I don't really have to worry too much as I tear through the bushes, brambles and rocks. If it gets nicked, torn or scratched, i'm just an easy peel away from the next version.

I my dip the hood scoop...but am considering wrapping the roof with 3M 1080 CF material. For looks and if I ever get a roof rack, I won't have to worry about cleaning the paint under the rack and it will protect the paint under the fairing.

I've had 3M product on my sedan and it held up very well, all I had to do was clean it with a household cleaning product.

I love this, I saw it and totally thought of this.. I like that you didn't go all the way down to the bottom of the hood

BTW these guys make kits for all 4R's minus 5th Gen.
