Hope for the best prepare for the worst. How are you prepping for the covid-19 virus.

I doubt he's in the medical field at all. Even hospital janitorial staff is trained is the basics of disease control because it's an important part of their job. This guy is probably a cashier at CVS.
You're absolutely correct. I apologize to janitorial staff world-wide and they have far more intelligence and compassion than this guy in the "medical field".

Wow, typical cop out. "It was a joke" when you can't take the heat. About what I expected from someone like you.

It was only a joke when you got called out as a *****. I get it, everything is a joke including the pandemic.

I can be whatever you want me to be. But fact is, you are what you are and you just provided everything I needed for my "beliefs".

You've lost the plot.

You seem to be swept up in an us vs them, left vs right, d vs r, kill or be killed mentality.

You're not calling anyone out except a figment you've created in your imagination.

Good luck with that.

Per capita hospitalizations show a very skewed distribution to older populations.

Probably don't need to lock down everyone and throw healthy, able bodied populations out of their livelihoods.

Another observation - the focus of some people is getting personal, with all the energy pointed at someone here instead of being focused on the overall topic, and information and people in the public eye that are related to the topic.

To me that behavior signals a common response (ad hominem attacks) due to an inability to backup one's point of view, assertions, etc.

Prove me wrong :clap2:

Everyone, no. There’s a >0% probability that “many” people were exposed lol.

How many people get infected with the flu each year? CDC estimates a wide range - no one really knows because it’s never measured, only guesstimated. Same with other coronaviruses, except the CDC doesn’t even guesstimate those.

Wouldn’t it depend on several variables starting with how many people traveled to/from Wuhan in Nov-Dec, where they went and the densities of those places, who they came into contact with, etc.

The curve mentioned in your edit - I suppose you mean the number of positive cases? That’s strictly a function of testing capability and has no direct correlation that we can be sure of yet to the actual transmission rate of the virus.

The number of hospitalizations and deaths follow approximately the same curve. Just random again right? It's already endemic in the population. Have you shared that insight with the CDC?

What happened in NYC? A bunch of people just decided to die all at once? I'll be fun they said. Let's all get ARDS and go in at the same time. Jokes on you America!

Of course they do. All of the recorded and tracked data for positive cases, hospitalizations, deaths, etc, follow the same pattern.

How could it not? It makes sense that all of that data is a direct function and highly correlated with efforts to start testing and diagnosing covid-19 specifically.

It also makes sense that the virus started spreading back in Dec, highly likely in Nov. It spread around the world through mid-March. Mid-March is really when we started to scale up testing and diagnosis. In early March, Dr. Fauci for example was telling us to hop on those cruise shops, this virus is no big deal.

See the post earlier about sharply declining new daily deaths. Hopefully the cat's not bouncing off the sidewalk, and that trend holds. Which could indicate the virus is at the end of its run this year, along with the end of respiratory virus season.

Which means we don't know if the data we're tracking now is highly correlated or not to the actual spread of the virus and deaths. Because the virus made the rounds and we just started tracking it. For all we know, we've been scaling up testing while the virus is winding down with the end of respiratory virus season.

Oh please. You can Google this, but here’s a sample of innovations from the western states.
Technology, like all of the software, computers and phones you all use to communicate on this forum. Brought to you by the brains on the left coast like Apple, Microsoft, Google, Facebook, Abobe. The GPS system you all use to navigate. The satellites, hardware, software, built on the west coast by Lockheed, Boeing, GD, Qualcomm, and others. The pioneers in the computer animation we all love in movies courtesy of Sun Microsystems, Silicon Graphics, Disney, Pixar, LucasFilms.
E-commerce brought to you by eBay and Amazon.
Electric cars, Tesla.
Clean air, clean water regulations.
Marriage equality.
John Muir. First National Parks Yellowstone and Yosemite.
Promoted by left coast liberals. There’s more. But you should know this already
OH PLease! I didn't post ANYTHING to do W/Technology IF you READ it!! I said Liberals & Named the people WHO have/HAD NOTHING to do W/Technology!!!

More data suggesting China’s infection numbers are exponentially higher...

“It is the party’s intent that no estimate of Chinese COVID-19 cases can be entirely convincing. Getting to 2.9M cases starts with [travel] information [of migrant outflow from Wuhan just before quarantine] offered by state media, uses the lowest available infection rate, applies days in circulation with a deliberately reduced figure to reflect a superior Chinese virus response, then stirs in the 1.39B population.

“Or, you can believe that 1.2M travelers from ground zero of a pandemic, some freely circulating for weeks, resulted in a national contagion of a little over 15,000 cases.”

The author notes that yearly respiratory infection and death rates in China could easily hide millions of COVID-19 infections and 130k deaths.

This coming after WaPo reported data on the ground in Wuhan that suggests the actual death toll in Wuhan is probably closer to 42k-46k people.

Why are you asking me? I wasn't the one telling people in NYC to go about their normal lives, and to go to the Chinese new year parade up through mid-March.

You should ask NYC politicans such as De Blasio:

And you should ask certain subject matter experts like Dr Fauci stating effectively the same thing:

I wish CA would return to its glory days.

Now it’s #1 in homeless, tent cities, piles of human poop, piles of used needles, hepatitis, illegal aliens and human trafficking.

Plus Feinstein employed a Chinese spy for 20+ years, which has got to be a record.

Don't hate California. It's like a country with a 3 trillion economy, largest population , GDP ranked 5th in the world which also brings with it equally big issues like, poverty, homeless, crime etc California's response to covid 19 has been pretty good and they are helping other states.

I love CA. Has a lot going for it. Needs help in certain areas though.

The IHME has just calibrated their models downward again by >30%. That's like 4-5 reductions in the span of 2 weeks. Still too high.

Surgeon general has abandoned using their models, because the models are crap.

This isn't in the mainstream "news" for some reason LOL.

For intrepid explorers, search is your friend.

You claimed that covid was already widely spread. Therefore the social distancing wasn't necessary. Did you forget? Shall I go back and copy and paste for you?

I outlined a potential null hypothesis that could be tested. For reference, see Null hypothesis - Wikipedia

The reason i chose that hypothesis is because it would seem easier to validate or disprove, accept or reject.

Trying to figure out a hypothesis and testing it choosing a timeline after mid-march, after all the authoritarian responses kicked in, would be relatively more difficult it seems due to many more variables.

For clarity, I do think it was widespread by mid-March. It seems logical that it would be, along with all the other respiratory viruses, since everyone was ignoring it up until mid-March. How could it not be widespread?

Your view seems to be that the virus was contained in Wuhan until mid-March. That could be another null hypothesis to test and validate or disprove (the mirror of my earlier one).

First year statistics student?

I'll help with some advice for life in the real world: Almost everything they teach you in undergraduate statistics is meaningless outside of academia. Very few things in the real world that matter follow Gaussian distribution.

As for this specific instance - making up stupid tests doesn't further anyone's understanding. We know with a high degree of probability that it was not and is not wide spread already. Because - New York, Italy, etc.
